My new 140 custom GLA tank build

That sucks about the light Marilyn . Will the dried up saltwater rust any of the components inside?
Beautiful tank by the way!

Thanks Steve, now I have a new thing to worry about! :a42:

As long as u wipe it all down and dry it all out u should be ok. In long run . Well after u get it back working. Oh yea and any body who houses any fixture in a canopy take it apart every few months and clean salt creep sucks . I just rebuilt my buddies that caught on fire because of salt creep arched two wires going to switch. Not same leds but it can happen to any especially under a canopy. Dont know if u do but just thought id share some useful info

I dropped my Coral Compulsion CC-120 in my tank a months back and also fried the blue channel. Ended up only needing to replace the driver and the light works just like new.

Now that I know how, this will be no problem. I guess it is actually somewhat of a good thing that this happened since I now know how to open it all up and how the thing works. If any LEDs go out, it will be easy to fix.

Hi Kev. It's nice to have someone to share this "wonderful" experience with. I"m glad yours ended happily. Hopefully mine will turn out the same.

Sunny from Evergrow sent me a tracking number for the power source box last night. It is being shipped by USPS, which I'm guessing means that it is originating from the US. I'll probably have it Tuesday or Wednesday! :dancing2:

I'm also going to scrap the frame that I made for the lights to sit on. I'm not taking the chance that the fixtures aren't secured to something!!!! I'll just be hanging them. I need them higher up then how I hung them originally, so I'm going to mount a rod on top of the canopy for them to hang from. Peace of mind is now worth lots more then the slight ugliness of an aluminum tube on top of my canopy! :a21:

Here's a couple of pictures of them hanging. I have them a couple inches higher then I originally had them mounted. I'd say about 12" above the water surface, and the spread is much better now. At first I don't think the 24" front to back was totally covered. Now it is for sure, and the light looks much more uniform. There is absolutely no shadowing from the two braces towards the center of the tank.

Very clean look! What are your thoughts of the LEDs over the t5's?

Thanks Steve,
Well, as far as just for looks, I really love the shimmer and the ability to change the look to bluer or whiter for a more custom look depending on my likes. I love, love love looking at the tank at night when only the blue lights are on. It's as if there is a black light over the tank. Everything glows! I also love the idea of not having to change bulbs, and lower heat.

What I need to get used to is the fact that the tank does look visually dimmer then when I had the T-5's. Although it is still lit up nicely, it's just not what I'm used to. The T-5's were SOOOO bright that it's hard to wrap my brain around the fact that the corals are still getting enough light. I'm so used to the tank being lit up like a runway. I think I'm programed for brighter light equals better growth and color, and in reality this is not true. So I think this more subtle look will take some getting used to, but I'm sure I will.

All things considered, I think I prefer the LEDs over the T-5's for controllability and looks. Since my tank is focused on LPS, softies, zoas and mushrooms, and very few SPS, I have no question that LED's will work fine for me.

I thought I'd add a few pictures of the tank at 4 mos. I have a bit of green dust algae, but the tank is still on the newer side, so I'm not concerned. I just wish I was a better photographer since I think the tank looks so much better in person. Everything in the tank seems happy and healthy, and I'm really happy with it so far.

Looks really good, green algae will go away and be replaced by purple coraline as you know. As long everything is healthy and happy :) , can we get FTS please?

Tank is looking great! And you are right, your tank does look MUCH better in person. I can try to take some pictures if you want since you live so close lol

I had an opportunity, recently, to acquire a trio of a fish that I truly love, especially when it is kept in groups. I had one of these once that unfortunately decided that even though he is supposed to be "reef safe", took a liking to my fleshy brain coral, and RELUCTANTLY sold him. I've regretted that decision from the day I let him go. My love for this fish outweighs my love for brain corals, and so I now own three. They are in quarantine right now, so check back in a week or so, when I will be ready to show them off. They are nothing too special to most of you, but I love them.

Thanks for the compliment.
And, I would LOVE you taking some pictures! You take great shots. Maybe you could also help me with figuring out the settings on mine if you know anything about a canon power shot, or give me an idea of a reasonable priced better camera???

I would be glad to help out. Just let me know when you are free and I will swing by.

Let me take guess - trio of heniochus fish? Tank looks good, to take best pictures is in the evening, window shades on, tank lights on, no flesh on camera. Than you can play with different settings. :)
