r33fswagg3r's Frag/Nem Tanks

So while waiting this eternity of 6 months on the build waitlist of Reef Savvy I decided I need something to play with in the meantime. I am buying dual frag tanks. One for frags as a growout and QT until the big tank arrives so that I have corals already well established, the second frag tank will be nothing but Nems, Bubble Tips really, I have a serious addiction to them. Both frag tanks will be identical. I have Zero Edge making my frag tanks, 4' x 2' x 12" Tall, 18" overflow boxes with front to back depth as minimal as possible, my instructions were to only make sure the bulkheads fit. Overflow box will accommodate dual 1" drains and dual 3/4" returns. Black vinyl on the back and bottom of the tank.

Went and picked up the stand today, first tank scheduled to be finished within 2 weeks.

Keep in mind this is the exact stand and color I picked up today, the tank is for reference only.

As of the moment my immediate plans include dual a360we Kessils over each frag tank, single Kessil a160we over each refugium in the sump, 40 breeder sumps made by me with black glass polished edge baffles, Autoaqua Smart ATO, Sicce pump, and still planning the rest of the equipment list.

what kind of sumps and equipment for them both?
I'm going to do 40 breeder sumps with black polished edges glass baffles, I will make them. I know sicce for return pump, not yet sold on the DC pumps and their tendancy to dial themselves down for efficiency. Haven't decided on my skimmer yet, most likely a skimz or try out the new Quantum skimmers for fun. I'm thinking dual MP10's on the back wall of the frag tanks so I don't have to see cords, 1 on each side of the overflow box but that could quicly change to another Maxspect Gyre. I know the equipment list for my Reef Savvy tank is going to be both expensive and extensive so I would like to save the overthetop/high end/**** stuff for that. I will use Marinepure blocks and drill them as frag racks for the growout/qt frag tank. For the Nem tank I'm going to have 3 frag racks made out of black acrylic with clear legs, 1" side walls on the frag racks with polished edges all around, no holes drilled in the bottom plates because I will be using marinepure spheres and layer the racks 1 layer high with them, thus the 1" walls on them so it holds the spheres in them. Nems will be able to hide down inbetween the spheres that way. Bare bottoms on both frag tanks. I should do frag racks on the frag/qt tank as well with the racks made the same way but the exact size of the marinepure blocks so the blocks are slightly recessed in the racks, lol. I want free water movement all around the tanks. Black and red acrylic sign that is backlit red saying r33fswagg3r above each tank, maybe, lol.

I have built many custom watercooled computers and I have toyed with the idea of building a slide out acrylic drawer underneath a reef tank and on that drawer have a precisely layed out watercooled computer built onto it so that when you do a top down viewing of the tank you can see the watercooled computer thru the bottom of the tank. Naturally the components would have to have led accent lighting strips.

That is well thought out, D#MN!

I have to say I love Lifereef Skimmers because they are just flat out workhorses and if a pump fails they are easy to replace but damn these Vertex Skimmers are some serious reef porn.....

Now that I have the 180i I have to ask myself, continue using the BRS deluxe reactors or go with the Vertex Universal media reactors.

You pay for the framing, which is $10, I have a huge roll of black screening, we will get it done. I have no problem with helping out fellow reefers.
