rmeugene's transition build

Not much to update...have not yet had a chance to work on removing the false wall after it was drilled successfully. I am going to try and relocate the current tank a few feet away so that I can have the 29 in place and get everything going. Only issue I currently have is finding a temp sump or a cheap sump to use in my current setup as I want to keep the custom sump from the current setup to be used with the 29. Have been keeping an eye out for a RS75 as I think it would fit.

One thing I did get setup is my RODI! No more lugging 10 5 gallon buckets from my friends house!

So...I have found a used shell of a CPR CR500 to use as a temp sump. Any ideas on if I need to mod it at all for this purpose? I figure on just having my Slim Skim in the 1st chamber with the supply from the tank. 2nd chamber would just be the return pump. This sump is much smaller than my custom one but for temp use I could not find anything else.

Next step accomplished…relocated the 24 gallon setup across the room so I could place the new build where it will end up. Next step will be swapping the custom sump with the CPR CR500. I will be losing about 8-10 gallons of volume but I really want to use my custom sump with the new build. If anyone has any input on whether I need to mod the CR500 before using it as the sump with the 24 gallon I would appreciate it. It has just the shell and I figured on having my skimmer in the 1st chamber with the supply from the tank and the return pump in the 2nd chamber.

Another cracked tank...

So…actually ended up finding a RS-75 to use with my old tank. Start to work on removing the false wall on the 2nd drilled tank. After removing the wall I find that it is cracked from the top of the center hole up to the top of the tank. Not even noticeable from the outside. In the pic it is at about 2:00. Totally bummed. Although this area would be behind the overflow and never see water and/or pressure I am not sure I would want to chance it. I am totally bummed. I see another 29 bio on craigslist but jeez…

Wow I thought u fell off the planet good to see ur back in action. Maybe seeing all the bad luck with the bio cube time to upgrade to a larger tank I would take that as a sign

I wish I could have something larger in our family room. Wife says I can have whatever size I want - in the basement.

Not unless it has a canopy. I was actually looking at a Red Sea 130d on craigslist but I am not familiar with them. Can the false wall be removed like on the bio? Can the back be drilled? Would I be able to retrofit my radion into the hood?

Well…picked up another setup for $100. Removed the false wall and the two side plastic pieces. Will taking it to a different LFS to have this one drilled. For the love of all that is holy I hope this goes well.

Thanks go out to Matt @ ShoTank for a successful drilling of my tank! Now to figure out the plumbing and get this build moving! :)

Hey Rick.... Glad to hear Matt was able to drill your tank for you... I have a spare 29 BC if you need it.

Where were you a couple of days ago?! I would have bought yours before driving out to Rockford for this one! I most certainly hope I will not need another!

Next step accomplished…swapped out my custom sump with the RS75. Now I can place the sump and start figuring the plumbing.

So…plumbed it all up and filled it with water. Using a mag9 with 1" return and it has a 1.5" drain from a 5"x5"x3.75" overflow box. Have a cad lights 100. It is noisy. Beginning to think the mag9 is too much pump. Have the gate valve closed a lot.

Beginning to think I should have listened to the wife and just stuck with the 24 gallon. Ready to take a hammer to this thing...
