Depends on what coral is on the plug...
Hydrogen peroxide diluted 1:4 works great to kill algae, but also kills SPS...and a lot of LPS...zoas don't seem to care unless you leave them in too long.

Option B) take the coral off the plug and mount on new plug it rock :)

For the record, no coral likes hydrogen peroxide LOL

Most zoas close up and "weather the storm"...but some don't recover. No idea what makes the difference. I've never lost a zoa this way, but I've heard that others were not so lucky. So YMMV.

My JoL survived a solid 5min dip in it to clean it when I bought it...it and the zoas have done alright :)

So it appears the peroxide dip has worked. Appears the hair algae is in check for now. Did lose one of my clowns this week. Unless he is hiding out somewhere. Not sure what happened. They both kind of stopped eating for a few days which was VERY unusual. I see a bit of orange way back under some rock work. Not sure if it is part of her. Had them for 2 years which does not seem that long. All params were/are good. Well, figure it will make introducing new fish a bit easier without the clown team to beat up on newcomers...

Hoping there is nothing crazy going on in my tank. Hear so many times of people going thru crashes as being inevitable. Just had a 20 head neon candy cane die off in 3 days. Few weeks back one of my clowns just went off feeding and must have died. Absolutely nothing has changed in the tank. Params are all norm for this tank. So far other clown and other corals look fine.

Sorry to hear this. The best advice i can give is to do a few large wc's over the course of a few days and run a lot of carbon. For a candy cane colony to just up and puke would lead me to believe something is off, possible contamination, you might never know but dilution and carbon is what I'd do.

So do I just throw a bag of carbon from a fluval in there - like where my purigen is? Just pulled out an acan that must have died and had a slimy film on it. :(

Don't panic and take it slow. Carbon is all pros with no cons, rinse it good.

I crashed my last system by panicking, and changing too much at once. My LPS always seem to be my canary when magnesium dropped.

Test, water change, test. Hopefully you can figure it out, although some things like this eventually figure themselves out.

So...what is the scoop regarding bristle worms? I dipped a few plugs with zoas in water/peroxide for HA and I had a few small ones drop off.

Well the one's that came off in the dip were dead. I never see tem and I do make it a habit to red light my tank once in a while in the middle of the night. I am not a big feeder with there only being one clown. Guess I will have to keep a closer eye. Do they harm corals?

So I was reading about someone who happened to test his rodi storage container and the tds was NOT zero. So I'm thought hmmmm...mine came up n the 50's. Coming out is zero and I filled a Hinckley bottle I use for an ATO and it read zero. Brought the gray Rubbermaid upstairs and gave it a vinegar scrub down. Rinsed it and started filling it and it is still reading 10. Any thoughts? I assumed the reading would/should be zero.
