Sawdonkey's 220 Thread

Tank looks amazing. Definitely looks different from the last time I saw it.

You should update the first post in your thread with your current equipment. Too many pages to dig through to find it all now haha.

No too much has changed:

Current Equipment:

- 220 gal display with dual overflows (durso).
- 75 gal sump with two chambers. (one for refugium, one for equipment/return)
- Four modified Ocean Revive
- HD Household LED flood light for sump
- SKIMZ SM 201 skimmer
- Reefkeeper Lite
- Two Little Fishies reactors for biopellets and GFO
- Jaebo DC12000 using standard returns
- Titanium 500W and 300W (backup) heaters
- 25 gallon ATO tank used for kalk
- Smart ATO
- Gyre 150
- Jaebo RW20

SOOOOOOO many things I'd do differently if I were to start over!

How's the smartATO handling the KALK? I loved mine until I started KALK and for some reason started needing to be reset every couple of weeks.

OH YEA! So what would be the top 3 things you'd do differently, if starting over?!?!

Smart AtO works great. I love it.

1. I'd do a tank without built in overflows and I use those super slim Reef Synergy overflows. Drill for the drains and returns. These look super sleek and you can barely see them. I HATE my overflows.

2. I have a proper sump with legit baffles.

3. I'd get a smaller sump so I'd have room for an electrical equip panel. And more storage under my stand.

Well you're kinda stuck with the overflows but it's never too late to swap out a sump! I got myself a synergy sump for my upgrade and boy is it slick!

Oh, believe me, it's too late. There is no getting the the 75 gal tank out from under my stand. I might redo the baffles some day, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I'd like to have a chamber just for the return, one for a refugium/frag growout, one for skimmer, and one for return. Right now I'm working with one chamber that serves as return/refugium, then a stupid baffle that has holes in it with PVC drains into the next chamber, and the other chamber is skimmer/return/heaters/reactors. I have to run filter socks on the stupid PVC drains from chamber to chamber just to keep air bubbles out of the DT.

Girlfriend is out with the ladies. I've got the house to myself. Time to down a few rye Manhattans and do a water change.

Do you think your LEDs are good enough to reach bottom of your tank for good SPS color?
I'm thinking of upgrading tank size and wondering if I need different lights too.

Yeah, I'm growing quite a few acros pretty close to the bottom of my tank, and it's 30" deep. For example, my Pinky The Bear is about 5" above the sand and it bright red/pink. My cross braces are a bigger issue than my depth. I really like the ocean revives compared to my old evergrows because I got so much more coverage front to back. The evergrows only lit the middle of the tank while the ocean revives, with the way I have them set up, allow me to grow acros near the front or back glass.

I do think that my poor PE is due more to my LEDs than anything else. I've got them cranked up. The acros color up better with them cranked but I think the intense light causes poor PE.

I have Lightroom but seldom use it. I just thought of it as being difficult. Well, I played around with it tonight and was able to get my photos to be much more true to real life colors. Never again will I color correct using Windows photo.

Thanks. Things have been running pretty smoothly and I'm seeing decent growth.

I'm not sure about that coral. I got it from Hung, so it's probably a cheap no name piece of garbage.....I kid. I thought he said it was RMF Ultimate Prostrata, but I cannot find a coral by that name online. @coralreeftank, do you remember what this was? It was in the tank in your back room.

That is my ultimate rainbow prostrata, the piece in have under 600 par looks amazing, lots of different colorings and they just swirl together, which makes it look weird.

Thanks for the reply. Then I'll call it the CRT Ultimate Rainbow Prostrata. Hung is going to be the next Reef Raft with everyone slobbering over his signature line of corals.

We'll, I may have gotten it from you a long time ago, but since then, I lost everything to AEFW (not saying I got AEFW from you by the way). This one, I got directly from Hung. Yeah, it was more of a green, but it's really turned pink lately. In Hung's tank, it had parts that were green/blue and parts that were red. Mine actually has quite the green base, but you can't see it in the pic. It's getting some blue in the tips too. So anyway, I guess I'm calling it the CRT Ultimate Rainbow Prostrata.
