Sawdonkey's 220 Thread

Was looking at my light fixtures a couple of nights ago and saw that across my four fixtures, I have about 25 blue diodes burnt out. They are still very dimly lit, so it wasn't totally obvious. No wonder I've thought my tank was looking a little white lately. I think a few fans inside the fixture have gone bad too. I've got a few extra fans laying around and ordered 30 royal blue diodes from eBay. I've got a pretty big project ahead of me on Sunday. I'm going to limp these fixtures along for another two years at least.

Good luck G, sounds like you have more patience then I

Replacing burned out diodes in my OR fixtures today. This is after about 2.5 years of use at nearly 100%. All blue channel. I've had a few fans go bad in this time, so heat was probably the issue. I'm replacing a couple Of fans today too, so I'm hoping to limp these along for a few more years.

I've got about $600 into these lights, so I figure that if I can get another year or two out of them, they've served me well.

Well, that consumed most of my day! My tank looks so much better. With 37 blue diodes burnt, the color was looking pretty yellow. Looks a ton better and brighter now. I imagine my corals will respond well.

I only have one working fan in a couple of a fixtures, so need to order a handful from OR or me going to end up with more burnt diodes.

I also finally got a Sailifert Potassium test kit. My K was at 380, so this may be why my Mounties have been looking pretty bad for a while. I'm gonna bring it to 400.

Today, I spend about five hours doing a water change and removing all of my sand from my tank. I replaced it with the really course gravel (big chunks of shells and pieces of live rock) I've had in my sump for years. I put it there just for extra surface area for bacteria, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't needed and it was hard to keep clean (it ain't easy to vacuum gravel that's in a sump).

I'm really liking the way it looks. It's just something different, I can crank up my powerheads and it doesn't' move, I don't think my triggers will spread it around as much as the sand, mu sump will be easier to keep clean, and I imagine that it will be really easy to vacuum.

Nice colors. I think anyone can use more aqua and/or yellow. Major Caribbean colors.

The new sand texture looks nice. Hopefully, the fish use the new gravel for roughage instead of nipping at coral.

My tank has been running pretty smoothly. Took a bunch of photos tonight, but apparently I took them in the wrong file format and cannot use them. Instead, I turned my Sawdonkey logo into a watermark. Tyree Pinky the Bear:

My SPS isn't staying colored up the way I like, so I'm going to switch it up. I'm ready to retire my four Ocean Revive fixtures after almost three years of service. I purchased a 2-bulb (80W) T5 Retrofit and two of these:

you just made me go from 90% to 95% on adding t5 retro to mine also .. with radion in the middle and 2 24inch t5 on either side .. but mounting is the most worry some for me haha

Yeah, I've had just LEDs for five years, so I'm excited to see how this light combo fills out the tank. I'm also excited to have more programmable LEDs that ramp up and down with six channels and also have high-quality CREEs.

Got to see saw donkeys tank in person and it is stunning with the lighting he is running right now. Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us all!
