Sawdonkey's 220 Thread

Thanks for the compliments guys. This was a ton of work. It took me all day on Sunday, from 9am until after midnight, with no real breaks. I even worked the last two evenings cleaning up and organizing.

Ted, glad to have you in the hood. You're welcome to some chaeto, but I've been noticing digitate hydroids (the long stringy ones) in my sump lately. I've never seen one in my DT, but I don't want to pass these along if you're worried about them. I don't care about them, and I don't plan on doing anything about them, but I imagine others want to keep them out of their tank. You should stop by regardless of the chaeto.

Tin, that stylo started as as a small frag about eight or so months ago. It now has around 30 growth tips. Great grower. My neon green birdsnest seems to get white tips when my tank is dialed in. The stylo always has white tips.

Tank Update:

Clowns are still in QT. I'll probably make the move to the DT next weekend.

Corals are all growing well. Here's a few shots:

Reef Tech Starburst Cap continues to grow. I got it as a leftover on a frag plug about a year ago. It was no bigger than a fingernail clipping.

This is my favorite coral in my tank. It continues to show more and more reds, oranges, and greens everyday. It has been encrusting for a while, but it recently shot up these new branches.

After moving this ATL Banana Lokani all over my tank to find the right spot, it is finally getting its yellow and it's about to jump the plug.

I got this from Happy Coral about a year ago. It has always been brown and I've never really even tried to get it into the right lighting until recently. I'm glad I did because it's developing some cool blues:

Red Planet is finally starting to take off after only encrusting for nearly a year.

This is a new one I got from Mai a few weeks ago. It's been coloring up nicely and I'm excited to see where it will go.

This is a frag I got off of Ebay that has colored up nicely and is really encrusting well:

The guy I bought this from called it "T's Blue Tabling Acro," but I'm yet to see any blue on it after a few months in my tank. His colony was beautiful, but only the more mature parts of it were blue. I've got high hopes for this one:

Palmer's Blue continues to explode with growth. I know this pic looks over saturated, but this is really what it looks like.

Another Ebay frag. It's encrusted quite a bit, and the end has turned more blue, but I don't have too high of hopes for it:

Blue Dragon. One of my fish broke this right away so now I have two small frags.

Candlelight Acro. This got pretty dull right after I put it in my tank. I can already see the yellow coming back though:

Ultimate Rainbow Prostrata. Also lost color, but is showing signs already.

I got a few more that I'll take pics of soon. Unless I were to add more live rock, I'm pretty much out of space at this point.

Great meeting you today! The tank is very nice and that little swimming football is fantastic. Can't wait to see how everyone reacts to the clowns (I'm sure it'll be fine).

Nice! If they didn't treat them like feeders right off the bat it should be good to go!

I now remember why I never got clowns. The are a really brainless fish. They are really enjoying their new host.....a wp40. I hope they find my huge hairy mushrooms soon.

When I watch my other fish in action, it looks like they are thinking about what they're doing. When I watch the new clowns, it looks like they have no brains.

Quick video. The fish are fighting over a couple of big Spectrum disks.

Man I love that tank. I won't do another big reef tank, but yours is truly one of the cleanest I've ever seen, with by far the nicest fish. Just missing one pinkface wrasse....

Downtown Clowntown! I got my clowns about a month and a half ago and after a three week medicated QT, I finally got time to take some pictures of them. They have resided in a few different spots in my tank, but hang out mostly in the left rear. I think that the fact that the other fish in my tank are about 10X their size keeps them from exploring too much. I've really got to make sure they get food when I feed the fish because it is a mad house at feeding time. The clowns don't dare get in the mix. It's not a big deal, I've just got to distract the other fish at the other end of the tank.

Oh yeah, they have received their newscaster names too:
