Sawdonkey's 220 Thread

Took some more shots this weekend. (I like playing around with the camera)

Tricolor has exploded with growth the last few months:

Picked this wild Aussie frag yesterday from New Fish. It was so cool looking I had to buy it. It is a translucent white and blue with yellow polyps:

Got this tiny frag from Happy Coral about a year ago. It was shaded for a long time and never really grew. Now it's in full light and has a full-time job fighting off that monti:

Got this pink millie as a $10 browned-out sps deal about six or eight months ago. It's colored up decently.

This setosa is one of the first SPS I ever bought:

Strawberry Fields has been encrusting for about eight months and is finally starting to branch:

GARF Bonz has also been a chronic encruster but has finally started to grow some branches:

This is a mariculture red millie I got from New Fish about seven our eight months ago. It has really good color but growth has been slow:

Blueberry Yum Yum from @coralreeftank. I have it pretty low in my tank, so I might move it up to bring out the colors:

Nothing new.....I've always been pretty lazy about water change doing them every six weeks. Recently, I've been doing them every three weeks and I think the results are pretty good. I'm seeing some nice sprouts. I get growth, but nothing mind blowing:

Took some top-downs tonight:

Palmer's is looking better than ever:

ATL Banana Lokani is growing, but I'm still not super stoked on the color:

This think started as a super tiny frag. My emperor angel seems to pick on this one. He bit off of the growth tips yesterday:

The colors on this red stag never stop impressing me. It is really taking off now that it encrusted a huge base:

A little Reef Tech Starburst, a little peach digi, and a little green cap with blue polyps:

The red-ish stag is really taking off. The growth tips are a nice blue:

I got this off ebay and it wasn't too sexy for a long time. Now I'm loving it:

Vivid's Rainbow is growing and coloring up nicely:

This was another ebay turd. It is getting a nice golden color and after encrusting for nearly a year, it is finally starting to grow some more branches.

This was a turd I got from Happy Corals about a year ago. It is starting to look nice, but I fear the monti that has it surrounded might win the battle:

we have a lot of similar corals! i love the coloring you're getting on your PC Rainbow...mine is still a tiny 1" frag but it's got a nice golden color...i keep him in low light, how about yours? my nauti spiral is a tad more faded yellow-orangish in color with reddish border but your PE is much greater than mine...i can see my purple/bluish polyps but they aren't extending as nicely as yours

I keep the pc pretty high up. It's on one end of my tank so it isn't getting light from all sides though. I keep the nauti spiral pretty low and it is partially shadesd by a purple stylo. Those polyps are barely visible with the naked eye. I'd like to get a lot of my corals up higher, but I'm out of prime real estate.

Did you buy corals from "T" (I can't think of his real name, but he is an Asian dude with a sweet highly automated 125 cube) just north of the city?

no, i got the PC Coral and Nautispiral (along with my starburst monti, red planet, pearlberry) from Jason Fox...he told me the PC should be low so I've kept it there and it's kept it's color...but you're getting awesome growth on yours so maybe it's a very versatile acro. the nautispiral is pretty low in my tank as well and is growing although not nearly as fast as my other plating type montis...my starburst though is a very very nice bright red with yellow polyps that are finally extending...i think that guy is starting to take off as its began to encrust the rock its on

how about your red planet? i have mine midway up the tank and slightly outside of center...i hear they get nice coloration in lower light and more intense red in higher light

i think you also have a tricolor valida?

awesome tank dude, love your aquascape and coral selection

Edit - this is the wyswyg pic from jason fox of my PC...this pic is highly doctored but not that far off what it really looks like...the colors are obviously far more vibrant and saturated in the pic but it's kept it's color at low light...i'm wondering if i could get more vibrant color if i moved him up

Keep in mind my tank is 30 inches deep, so even the highest corals are 10 inches deep in the water. My PC Rainbow is probably 12 inches deep. I purposefully put it on the tip of a piece of tonga with the idea that it wouldn't have much room to encrust before it started shooting out branches. You can see that the tip is starting to spit into 5-6 new branches already. The JF pic is obviously over saturated on the pic above, but the non-WSIWYG pic on his site looks about like my coloring.

My Nauti Spiral is pretty slow. It grows much slower than other caps and I imagine that it has to do with the fact that it grows so much thicker? I probably have it 20 inches from the top of the tank.

I have my Reef Tech Starburst at about 20 inches too. It grows ok, but nothing too crazy. All of my caps grow down for some reason instead of spiraling up. It's quite ugly, but I don't' know what to do about it. I played around with flow and lighting. My color is nice though.

I have two tri colors. One is ATL and one is unknown. The ATL is almost purple, like a GARF bonz, but it has been encrusting for about 10 months with no branches. It just ran into my red stag though, so hopefully that encourages it to sprout up? The base is probably two or three inches now. The generic one has encrusted very little and has grown tons of branches. The color isn't as deep though.

Thanks for the compliments.

My has also covered the whole plug, started to grow on the rock. Mine is on top and its mainly red, little green.

Well, all acros are dead and out of my tank, but things aren't all bad. I'm really liking my new scape and my fish are too. They are much more active weaving in and out of the rock piles. While I have no acros, i still have a decent amount of SPS. Here are some pics I shot today. I'm optimistic about where my tank is heading.

This ORA purple stylo has been a great grower:

Here's a quick video to show how the fish interact in the new scape. The tangs seem much happier now that they can swim in front and behind the rock piles.
