Secret Society

...you newbs so very much not know me....

Eric, you sound like Yoda... ;)

Seriously, this thread is pretty awesome! I didn't think this would be a point of so much contention. Is it wrong for people who have contributed their opinions and knowledge of the hobby to be able to see what other senior members are up to? There should be a place that people can't ask noob questions like, "What salinity should I keep my reef at?" or "What can I do about diatoms?". Whenever I get to that point, it'll be well celebrated.

It'll be a while before I hit 1000, and even though I'm a supporter, I probably won't clutter that part of the forum (unless Dre drops kitty bombs; I'll comment). It's a privilege to have resources like CR and RC, so when they decide to reward active members who contribute, who are we to discourage it? I'm not as active here as I am on other sites, but I know one day I'll have as much knowledge as some of the senior members, and it's worth sharing.

Eric has been on here long enough to swing the big stick (haha, that's just a terrible joke), so he's entitled to voice his opinion, much like the rest of us. His voice is just heard louder (IMO) because he's a senior member. Why can't senior members have an escape from the rest of us? It's not like they're going to stop contributing...

I'll stop ranting...but I don't necessarily agree with letting supporting members with less than 1000 posts participate in the Hidden Reef either. It kind of takes away from the challenge. Ma $.02! :)

This thread is sad and funny at the same time. It's funny how ppl don't let things go and sad cuz they get there feelings hurt on the INTERNET. Like rosko said if u don like the thread don't post. It's that easy. And how did having money get it the picture of this thread. All u have to do is post 1000 posts and that's it.
To me bam bam was kinda starting a way to get ppl more active on the site and this turn out bad. But anyways I'm not at 1000 yet but this would b kool. Kinda like a VIP.

ALL RIGHT!!! Enough CATS already!!!!

There was a south park episode with the cat breading. Wtf. Gotta go google that or go workout or see how this thread goes.

So...I've been reading this thread a little slower than it has grown but I'm finally at the end and here's what I think...It doesn't appear the OP's original intention was to create a place were sales and free stuff would only go to sr. members, so I'm not sure why some folks started assuming that. Personally, I would MUCH rather give my free stuff to newer reefers and help them out. I know many others feel that way too. As far as selling goes, why would someone in the secret group only post something for sale in the hidden thread? That makes no sense, either. You'd want to post things where you'd have the most potential buyers.

Personally, my thought is that the hidden forum would mainly be just a bunch of non-reef related stuff that isn't appropriate to splash all over the home page. The hidden forum won't be a place where reef questions are going to be posted. I'm fairly certain there are plenty of members on CR with very few posts who have a lot of experience. Why would someone want to limit the field of expertise if they have a question or need help with something? I certainly wouldn't.

IMO...I was also thinking that 1000 posts is a fairly high requirement. There are certainly plenty of long-time and active posters who are not near 1000. If it was up to me, I think the OP's original intent could still be met with only 750, or even 500 posts.

Aside from that, this thread has gone way off topic. There have been former arguements rehatched for no reason and completely random jabs made that have nothing to do with the hidden forum.

Although bizzarly entertaining, I do not feel that these off-topic and personal attacks represent what this community is all about and I'd rather not sit here deleting more posts all afternoon so please stop posting off-topic opinions.

I didn't think 1000 was high enough! I think 1000 is a good low-enough number for those active to obtain fairly easily

wats the average posts?

don't know about average, but this is what i get for the top 10... so there are plenty that are 1000+ and i'm sure many more not too far away
