SkullV's Aquarium Adventures

Small update.

New piece from New Fish today. I bought quite a bit, but they have a lot more of this colony left:

Thanks for looking.

I got a piece of that first colony last weekend. It's really cool. It's so white in my tank that it almost looks dead. It has a nice blue tint though and the fluorescent yellow polyps are cool.

Yeah, it's a very cool piece. Glad I got a large piece of it. I have another piece I'd like to get from them as well, just need to make some water so I can bring him some frags from my tank to trade.

Also, another reef precaution, if you have a cat, and use any kind of scented/clumping litter, MAKE SURE there is no way that the litter can get into the tank. I came home Saturday to some burnt tips on 2 pieces. One has been in the system for close to a year, the other for only a week or so. Also poor polyp extension on a few other pieces. My alk is 8.0 so I wasn't worried about alk burn, but then I saw it, a little blue crystal surrounded by some gray crap on the sandbed. I knew as soon as I saw the crystal that it was Tidy Cats. Sucked it out, cut off the burnt tips, and did a 2g water change while I was at it. This morning everything looked good again, no new burnt tips, and no poor polyp extension.

I also went ahead and sealed the open part of my canopy temporarily with some tape and put some double sided tap on the top of the canopy. Apparently cats don't like sticky things so they learn not to go on surfaces that have the double sided tape and it can be removed after a while. Oh well, lesson learned and luckily almost no harm done.

A little over 24 hours since the water change and sealing up canopy from the possibility of cat litter and everything is totally perked back up.

Your tank looks amazing. Like the fish too :-)

Thanks Eddie! Sorry I missed your text. We'll take care of the rest of the LEDs when you get back.

A couple tank updates. Picked up this sweet new Milli from New Fish today. Browned out a little bit from transport and dipping, but still looks good. Polyps are just starting to come back out. It's got peach skin with bright yellow tips:

Thanks other Ted.

Will post some photos of the sump tonight.

Thank you everyone who followed along. The FTS above is likely the last for this tank. All coral is already spoken for and I'll be keeping the fish and rock.

Wow, what's next then Ted?

For now I'm going to move everything from the clown tank over and leave it at that. Just got WAY more work here at the office, about to start studying for the bar exam again, and moving in under a year to Arizona. Once I get there I'll do a large FOWLR tank, but for now this will keep my feet wet and in the hobby.

So this is where the tank is at right now. All SPS gone, added about 7lbs of fully cured Tonga branch plus about 5lbs of Tonga from the clownfish cube. Moved the clown, nems (one of the "sunburst" split into three), palys, and green star polyps over. The fish are very happy with all the additional caves but I still have to play with the scape a little bit. I think the branch in the center that is straight up and down will be moved to the far right to make the center look a little less....."busy".

Still haven't decided what to do with the little cube tank in my bedroom yet. All that is left is one sunburst split that is getting traded, the gorgonians, and some really nice ricordeas.

Looks good ted

Looking good Ted....lots of cool nooks and crannies for the fish and corals.

I like the looks of the new tank
Thanks guys, its a big change, but I'm happy with it.

Um.....it looks like a pile of rocks....get some corals in there Counselor ;)

I agree, there are actually three nems in there that are behind the rocks since they just went in. Going to be adding a few more. No more hard coral though since I have almost no time for tank maintenance anymore. Ideally I'd like to add 2-3 more bubble tips, remove the 1.5" Kole and 2.75" Leopard Wrasse, then add a potters angel.

Hard to put more $$ into a tank that I know with 100% certainty will need to be broken down in less than a year.

Pulled the Kole tang and added this guy from AQUAPROS. It's about 2.25" and get along great with the other three fish.

Also changed the aquascape a little bit using the same rocks. Just opened everything up. I'll try to take a good photo tonight with the real camera.
