Spartanman22's 80 DB

Here's some crummy iPhone shots that I grabbed real quick. Wouldn't sit still but both are within minutes of being in the tank.

Congrats Cubs! Not much of a baseball fan but found myself cheering them on this post season. Very exciting to witness sports history.

In fish related news, it's now been over a week since removing the filter socks from my sump, and I'm starting to notice some changes. Water clarity is slightly down, but coral color is darkening back up. My LPS are stabilizing and rebounding. I think I was stripping too much with the socks in there. Now if only I could get rid of the crusty sandbed. I think I need to ramp up the flow. I'm likely going to add a 3rd MP40 this month as a little birthday present.

I was staring at my tank last week, and came to the conclusion that I really didn't like the look of my lights. So, I've decided to build a floating canopy. I've got the bones of it done. There will be a 1/4" plywood top with 3 120mm PC fans out the top.

It will be suspended using 3/4" conduit painted grey. I'm using t-slot lighting track to hold the lights. This way I can slide them around as needed. I'll also be adding 2 48" T5's as supplement. Likely going to run two aquablue plus.

We had suggested a floating canopy.
Should also help with the light bleed out of tank.
Looks good. And the t5 will help with cutting some frags this way from the growth

Ya the original plan was to do a floating canopy. I had designed this setup with the Elols Planet 2 fixture, in which case I didn't want a canopy, but then switched to LEDs.

I'm also going to take the opportunity to wire up all three OR-T247 fixture to a bluefish mini controller.

So I was planning on getting a Miro 4 LET 48" T5 retrofit Kit for the canopy, but remembered I have a 6 bulb 48" T5 grow light. Any reason not to just get some waterproof endcaps and scrap that fixture?

Today I'll be ordering a bluefish mini and will be attempting to string up my three OR's on it. A bit nervous since I'm not the most electrically inclined, but hopefully it goes well enough. My plan as of right now is to use headphone jacks to string the three lights together.

Let me know how this goes. Looks very interesting. It could probably get a little sloppy looking, but since my lights are up in a canopy, I really wouldn't care. I would like to have the ramp up, ramp down option. So if you use the Bluefish, are you no longer controlling the lights at all with the factory head unit?

Just always monitor the fans in these lights, especially if you have a canopy. The moisture can easily take them out. I've already replaced about 5-6 fans and I need to replace a couple more.

Ya I wouldn't be trying this if I wasn't installing a canopy. From my understanding, you control them all through the app once the bluefish is installed. I've got 3 PC fans coming in to install into the canopy and since it's a floating canopy and open underneath there should be decent airflow.

I'm ordering all the parts today and can hopefully get started on it next week. I'll be sure to document it.

Ordered the Bluefish Mini, 20x6" female/female jumper cable, and 4x3.5 mm snap-in chassis jacks.

That should be everything I need, I hope. Should have all that sometime next week.
