Global Aquatics in Wood Dale

I'm just saying that I haven't had a problem with them. I have bought fish from aquatica before (nothing bad about mario or his crew, they're great) and the fish lived less than 2 months and I have bought fish from global that have also died within a few months but I also have some in my tank that have been around for about a year. I have never been one to have much luck with fish as it is so I would rather take my chances getting them cheaper. I only deal with one person there and he always seems to point me in the right direction. He tells me if a fish has been eating or not and they have even told me that the fish that I wanted just got in and to give it a few days to make sure its eating. I guess you just have to build a good relationship.

I also like how people say that "your not getting wholesale prices" Guess what, When I pay half the price for a fish that's wholesale to me! Hmmmmmmm......should I but one green chromis for $17, or 5 of them for $20? You do the math. It's nice to go there and spend $100 and Leave with more then 2 things.

I think your issue is that the LFS you go to is ridiculously expensive. There are stores who sell things at prices very close to what Global does. In fact, prices at Hidden Reef are normally lower than that of Global.

ive been at global hundreds of times ive became friends with omar one of the workers i have had no issue with their products from corals fish inverts everything is still alive i bought my lawmoner blenny there for 12 dollars where at other stores where 40 most LFS wanna tripple their money when im pretty sure they can get the lawmoner for way less then 12 bucks

great staff also got a couple frags for free on my birthday

everyone likes to save money and with proper care anything can be done if you were unable talk to bob the owner older big white guy with glasses he gave me credit when my powder blue died not all back but i didnt loose all my money

i dont know of a LFS that has warranty on live stock

I agree. I'm not saying the guys there are bad. In fact, I was talked out of a couple fish when I was told their tank survival rates were really bad and even told not to buy certain fish becasue they were either not acclimating well or were very new. Even after getting pointed in the right direction I still had poor survival rates. Generally speaking, most all fish I buy stay alive. I just can't say that for the one's I've bought from Global.

Yeah, Omar and Francisco are great guys to work with and they really know their fish. I didn't realize that they warranty their livestock. Do they offer that to everyone or just guys like you who they know really well? My LFS does not warranty any of their fish either but they always take care of me if something dies.

I'm always amazed at how rampant assumptions, rumors & hearsay get out of hand...and how gullible people can be. It all must be true...cuz someone said so.
Anyway, I've talked to the owner at global before and he's a good guy. It's true that a handful of loser store owners have screwed them over, as well as other suppliers. Regardess of the reason for cheating someone out of money, it's still wrong.
some of the other things he told me: it's been about a year since anyone there has told people to keep it a secret. Their focus is retail now. any retailer that blames global for poor sales is ignoring the fact that there are plenty of others that do retail & wholesale, that sell out of their garage on a large scale, that sell out of a warehouse, etc. But somehow global is the one that gets pissed on.
About the dumass assumptions, here are some: blue water (obviously a lot of you are clueless about it); bad quality fish (ha!); inverts only thrive in cold water (look under the tanks and see if you can find a chiller, even in that hot warehouse); bashing supporters; only ones without a guaranty (how many stores do? and how many hobbiests are cluless on how to acclimate!) owner using various names (did u ever think there are other people there that do email?); best one: owner a pc of s***. Obviously you don't know the owner. Hey, whoever said that---I'd like to see you say that to his face. Let me know if you grow those balls. I want to watch. haha. (tough guy who hides behind his computer).
Anyway, cut them some slack. just people doing the best they can and thriving on expertise. and cut the National Enquirer hearsay.
Happy reefing!

it's sooo cold down in Mexico!

90% of his cuc come from Mexico and do best in cooler water in the mid 70s that why he sell them he knows they are going to die in your reef tank if it gets above 78 degrees for a couple day thats how this guy make his money

Huh?? Yeah, it's sooo cold down in Mexico!

I picked up a flame angel from them awhile back that is doing great. I also picked up some cleaner shrimp, snails, crabs, and coral from them and they have all done great. The guys there were very nice and helpful. I was however a little turned off by the fake names, "our secret" thing, and coming on boards under fake names to defend / promote themselves. Perhaps that is all in the past and it's really up to the buyer to decided where to shop. There are really poorly ran pet/fish stores everywhere that I would never step foot in again and this isn't one of them. To each their own.

Everybody runs their business they way they want and the ways they can make the money. I wouldn't doubt some of you would be called names if you had your own shop.

Let's just say some people like Global, some don't. Just like every single other seller either LFS or online. Everyone has their own opinion but please knock off the name calling. It isn't necessary or intelligent. If you don't like GA then read another post for heaven's sake.

Oh, BT2---Amen....

BTW forums on the internet are not private. The worse you speak of someone or someone's business, the more you open yourself to libel.

1. i am sure you talk to the owner because you are the owner
2. If you are doing retail now why not put it on your website and advertise it?
3. global is doing the screwing ask your local fish store
4. why does global get piss on look how you run you place fake name fake web site just be honest with people and they would no piss on you
5. about using different name you are so dumb i text you and use you using your fake names and you answer the call every time one time four times in on day
6. why do you think some one called you a pc of s---? there is a lot of other four letter word that fit in there and any time bt2 you want to meet me there let me know
7. plenty of others that do retail & wholesale name them the ones that do keep it separated and DO NOT LET RETAIL PEOPLE IN THERE WHOLESALE BUSINESS and they advertise retail and not just on craiglist
8. You want people to give you some slack try to run a honest business keep wholesale for wholesaler and keep retail as retail like most place do. Quit lying to people using fake names fake web sites nobody is falling for your stuff any more

You can find him on facebook openly advertising about being open to the public. In fact he posted today that they are going to start being open on the first sunday of every month from noon to 4. His name on there is Bob Thomas.

Personally I don't really care what he calls himself because I only deal with Omar or Francisco anyway. I feel like a couple of the kids that they have working there don't really have a clue but these 2 guys wont steer you in the wrong direction.

Some of you people must have really gotten screwed over buy these guys. At the end of the day I find it hilarious how personal some of your are getting. It's just a store. If you don't like the place then don't shop there.

I don't care either. I've never dealt or even gone to the store. What gets to me is that he's always using so many different usernames and trying to hide his image. Why not be honest and out about your business. I guess he's just scared for all the negativity he gets. That in my book can't be good. Too shady for me.

I'm not sure what all the facts are but what I heard is that Francisco was used to be the owner and fell on hard times so Bill,Bob,Brian,Jack,John whatever the hell his name is basically invested in the place with little knowledge of the hobby. The deal was for Francisco to stay there and basically run the place and Bob would basically get there name out there and boost business.

After seeing all the posts on this thread, I guess his strategy has worked because now even more people know about the place. I go there strictly for the cheap prices and Francisco's honesty. There have been many times that he wouldn't let me buy a fish because it either wouldn't get along with my tank mates or because it wasn't eating and he didn't think it would make it.
