Global Aquatics in Wood Dale

I'm not sure what all the facts are but what I heard is that Francisco was used to be the owner and fell on hard times so Bill,Bob,Brian,Jack,John whatever the hell his name is basically invested in the place with little knowledge of the hobby. The deal was for Francisco to stay there and basically run the place and Bob would basically get there name out there and boost business.

After seeing all the posts on this thread, I guess his strategy has worked because now even more people know about the place. I go there strictly for the cheap prices and Francisco's honesty. There have been many times that he wouldn't let me buy a fish because it either wouldn't get along with my tank mates or because it wasn't eating and he didn't think it would make it.

I heard the exact same thing. I've been going there for some time now and although I've heard bad things about the owner (Bill) and the way they run things, he's been a pretty cool guy. I've brought my fiancé and kids plenty of times and he's done nothing but greeted us with a smile. Going in and seeing the cramped conditions the fish are in and the"blue" water are a lil concerning but have bought fish there with great success. Francisco or cisco as I call him, always tells me when its going to be cheaper, what they're getting in and will go as far as to hold something for me. The taller/ bigger guy there always has some good advice and answers all my questions. Although some things I was looking at were not cheaper than other places (pico), most things were.I've been to lfs and some prices seem ridiculous and what some have that are even worse is the customer service. These guys have been cool and I really don't have any complaints against them.

introduction

I'm always amazed at how rampant assumptions, rumors & hearsay get out of hand...and how gullible people can be. It all must be true...cuz someone said so.
Anyway, I've talked to the owner at global before and he's a good guy. It's true that a handful of loser store owners have screwed them over, as well as other suppliers. Regardess of the reason for cheating someone out of money, it's still wrong.
some of the other things he told me: it's been about a year since anyone there has told people to keep it a secret. Their focus is retail now. any retailer that blames global for poor sales is ignoring the fact that there are plenty of others that do retail & wholesale, that sell out of their garage on a large scale, that sell out of a warehouse, etc. But somehow global is the one that gets pissed on.
About the dumass assumptions, here are some: blue water (obviously a lot of you are clueless about it); bad quality fish (ha!); inverts only thrive in cold water (look under the tanks and see if you can find a chiller, even in that hot warehouse); bashing supporters; only ones without a guaranty (how many stores do? and how many hobbiests are cluless on how to acclimate!) owner using various names (did u ever think there are other people there that do email?); best one: owner a pc of s***. Obviously you don't know the owner. Hey, whoever said that---I'd like to see you say that to his face. Let me know if you grow those balls. I want to watch. haha. (tough guy who hides behind his computer).
Anyway, cut them some slack. just people doing the best they can and thriving on expertise. and cut the National Enquirer hearsay.
Happy reefing![/quot

1. i am sure you talk to the owner because you are the owner
2. If you are doing retail now why not put it on your website and advertise it?
3. global is doing the screwing ask your local fish store
4. why does global get piss on look how you run you place fake name fake web site just be honest with people and they would no piss on you
5. about using different name you are so dumb i text you and use you using your fake names and you answer the call every time one time four times in on day
6. why do you think some one called you a pc of s---? there is a lot of other four letter word that fit in there and any time bt2 you want to meet me there let me know
7. plenty of others that do retail & wholesale name them the ones that do keep it separated and DO NOT LET RETAIL PEOPLE IN THERE WHOLESALE BUSINESS and they advertise retail and not just on craiglist
8. You want people to give you some slack try to run a honest business keep wholesale for wholesaler and keep retail as retail like most place do. Quit lying to people using fake names fake web sites nobody is falling for your stuff any more

Wow. Talk about getting personal! Which store is yours? This obvious chip on your shoulder makes it look like if you don't have a store yourself, someone close must
Not that it's anyone's business, but my name is Brian. My father is Brian Sr. When I became a father recently, my son became Brian III. I'm now Brian the second. Thus the i.d. BT2. Again, not that it's anyone's business. More important it's not relative what the hell anybody's name is. I like Global because they're great guys with great livestock and great pricing. On the topic of names, I'm sure your birth certif doesn't say "onepoorreefer" on it. Oooohhh ssshhhh! I'll bet this guy is someone else! lol
Buy from them; don't buy from them; buy elsewhere; I don't care. But cut with all the slander.
I would hope that you have something better to do than to go on & on how a company that you probably don't know pisses you off for whatever reason. I know I have plenty of other things to do than waste any more time with a tough guy like you.

This is very true. In fact he was more honest and especially knowledgable than I can say for some of the LFS's I've been too.

It seems to me that a lot of people have an issue with the way this place started marketing to the public. Personally, when I first heard about the "secret wholesale place" and their secret website, I thought to myself, what a brilliant idea! Probably the best marketing idea I've seen in a long time.

It also seems to me that the people who are the most upset are the ones who take offense that a wholesale business transitioned into retail (or a hybrid).

In any event...shop there...don't shop there...do whatever makes you happy.

It's obvious that this thread has become more about personal feelings towards the store and less about the business itself. It doesn't appear that this arguement is going to get resolved so let's all stop :fight: and start :grouphug: so we can get back to :aqua:

I'm curious if they charge you sales tax which would be illegal for a wholesaler to collect that from you?

WHAT?? Finding all kinds of ways to bash this store is really pathetic. Now you are knocking him for charging tax? Are you kidding. Every business in the state of Illinois collects sales tax. Only buyers with a sales tax/resale license don't pay the tax; it gets paid when you buy the item.

OMG........it's illegal to GA to charge sales tax......You guys need to stop talking other people's business and just stick to talking about fish.

What's next? He's wrong for wearing blue jeans? His business is lousy because he grew a beard and only legitimate business owners are clean shaven? Oh, he's hiding because he's in an industrial park instead of a tiny store with amazing high overhead?

Can we delete this thread? I think some of you are a piece of **** but I won't bash you on public forum---whatever your name is!! You are using a fake name on this forum so YOU must be hiding something!

I'm going to agree with that marketing idea is pretty brilliant considering when stuff becomes "secret" it brings more attention to them. Which would increase interest towards the business and draw people toward being apart of there secret openings and so called website which would in turn draw in business. I deff might just check this place out any place is worth a try.

Clean up crews and dry goods are the only thing i will get from Global Aquatics. I have lost countless fish days after putting them in my quarantine and haven't gotten anything back. There staff is nice but the way they do business is horrible. My friend bought a $130 acillis tang and lost it on the drive home. He quickly called them and headed back. They did nothing about it. My 120G tank had about 15 fish. After 6 months of adding fish. 5 of the 15 died. Guess where i bought those 5. Someone in this thread mentioned PETCO. I have found sailfins and powder blues for under $35 and are still healthy till this day. Plus they have a 15 day DOA guarantee.

+ a million!

I wouldn't buy fish either. I am fairly new to the game but I got some questionable advice on compatibility. Some will say that's not their job but I disagree. Their corals have all done well for me and the guys are very nice.

I think your issue is that the LFS you go to is ridiculously expensive. There are stores who sell things at prices very close to what Global does. In fact, prices at Hidden Reef are normally lower than that of Global.
Lol, your right about that hidden reef normal prices are lower and they give 7 warranty on fish! Win win situation
