Madjoes rebuild

I wanna come check this mess out in person when I get back into town. I've been gone for a week, coming back in on Friday then I'm gone again until the first of January but after that we need to set up a date and I wanna throw some ideas at your system and see if we can't get this thing straightened out

In my experience the sand bed just takes some time. My sand bed looked horrible after setting up my 80 gallon in May. I'd rake it daily, vacuum it during water changes, increase flow to keep it stirred. But no matter what I did it'd still clump up and get a gross red slime everyday. All the coral looked great, but the sand was so distracting.

Now that the sand bed is starting to mature a bit (going on 7 months) it's just getting better on its own. I only rake it once a week or so just to keep it mixed up.

I honestly believe it's just a maturity thing. As long as your fish and coral are happy just give it time. Keep up with regular maintenance like vacuuming and stirring, but otherwise once it matures it should take care of itself. Just my $0.02

Well day two of vibrant dose and lights out . Slime is gone but thats from lights out hopefully vibrant will make it stay gone idk how much more my corals can take of these hail mary tries to kill this chit. On side note it seems like everthing i do lowers ph to a level i dont like and my ph seems to swing way to much . Before anybody says dont chase ph kiss my azz ph at 6.5 its time to figure out a way to stabilize it corals r getting brittle easy to break so its definitely a issue . So i think my plan of attack will be when lights come on to start using kalkwasser in my ato again like i used to on my 75 i will stop dosing alk and calcium and monitor see what the tank runs at with just kalk then adjust the alk and calcium dosing to dose what the kalk wont do although kalk maybe enough for now since my corals r twigs again . Just in case any body wondering it not the probe im running two probes and both r calibrated and both r reading low .

I was still dosing my kalk when the lights where off especially at night to maintain ph.

Before kalk. I had the oposite fuge light schedule to help with ph change. Now with kalk its opposite

I did vacuum sand bed then treatment with cyano remove after 48 hrs I did water change 25% then cover sand bed with newer 2 inches lives sand and cleaned filter every day after feed brand new filter pad and filter. Sock every 3 days so far so good oh just added diamond goby to sniper sand but this fish is working so hard turn water cloudy but all lives stock so far so happy.

I think your plan is good Joe. I might even take Freddy's advice and start now and not wait for lights on. Wow taking Freddy's advice, never thought I'd say that lol

Yea that's what I was saying, I was agreeing with stopping the dosing and mixing the kalkwasser in the ro I think you will get better ph number with that especially with the sticks getting noticeably more fragile, good luck man keep us updated

Joe what are your phos and nitrates at. Ive always had that damn cyano BS on my sandbed when my nitrates and phos were at 0. Once I started raising both the cyano went away on its own. YEAH but what the hell do I know just something I have noticed. ha
