Trust me Nathan, Reed and I are in the same boat as you. We were blindsided and found out we will both be out of a job the same time all of you did.

If any of you guys have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM. I'll miss seeing all of your familiar faces!

ugh, that blows guys, oh well hopefully something new pops up in the area but it will be hard to take the place of that store :(

Let me clarify. I like (love) MCF since I started going there. By "used", I meant us as the consumer. But looking at it from a business perspective, it was a good business plan. Phase 1: Gather customer base, build venture capital. Phase 2: Go wholesale only with capital gained from retail sales. Now they can run leaner with less AOC (all other costs) and less people for the retail side, and thus make more money.

Think of the name Midwest Coral Farms. Sounds more like a wholesaler than a retailer, right? My guess is that it was their plan all along to do it this way, and it worked perfectly. Good business plan, but bad for us little people ;)

Blake, you guys should start up your own store with all the contacts and experience you have now!

I can tell you without a doubt and in all honestly as I am no longer involved with either MCF or Global Reef Supply, that was not the plan at all.

I don't understand that. You have a business making money, why would you close it? Even if you wanted to focus on another business, why close the original one? I would just let somebody else manage it, and still concentrate on the second one.

I second this.. With all ur knowledge and experience and contacts u guys can surely start up ur own mini business/store..

Blake sorry to hear that you are out of a job! you are always so friendly when i stop in!

Wait, so Blake you and Reed aren't going to be there Thursday?
I was assuming everyone was going to be there thursday, I guess I may not go. :(

Well it was pretty obvious from my first visit that the owners never attended The Wharton School. . .

It felt so much like a club though. Dang! I've cared less about relatives dying. I need to ask myself why. . .

Trust me, your not the only one.

My 2 favorite stores by far were MCF and Coral Reef.
MCF just based on the pure size/awesomeness.
Coral Reef because I have been going there ever since I could walk...literally...Went to norridge pool all the time as a little kid, going to coral reef after was a MUST. Dont live close anymore, but still go there to this day, even if its just in-and-out to buy dry goods.
