Whether they decided to do this or not is none of our business, but the way they handled it is disastrous! They've obviously treated their employees in a poor manner, and that makes them look bad to the customer who has been dealing with them the whole time. If after 2.5 years, my boss just up and told me I was fired, I wouldn't be the one in the wrong for being upset when there was no warning. They could have told the employees privately, and prepared a much better statement and allowed a little more warning to the customer as well. This was done very slipshod and hastily by the sounds of it.

Can't blame the other staff for not being happy Greg, that was a part time job for you, but full time employment for the other guys. However we did have alot of good times there, partys and all. Buying corals from you :)

Really sorry to see you go MCF. Lots of great coral in my tank from you guys.

I don't really know what happened, or the business decisions that ultimately led to this, but I can say that if Blake was informed about this at the same time as the announcement was made as he stated, that simply isn't right or ethical.

According to the new mystery poster, they tried to reach him via email. If this is true, this only makes it worse. Email to let somebody go? Really?

I really like this store and will be sad to see it go, but I have to admit that Blakes feeling of betrayal here is unacceptable. That kid MADE your business much of what it was. THAT, not the store closing, makes me angry.

I hope MCF does what's right and good luck with future endeavors.

to the person who just signed on to defend mcf, i did not mention what happened, i did not start rumors. I mentioned what i know and i stated i would not be going into detail about it. There are a few people around here such as Frankie that know what i was talking about. i just felt i had to say my 2 cents.

Wow. Letting any employee go via email is about as unprofessional as it comes.

Not even the respect to look somebody in the eye and explain the circumstances and the decisions in a respectful manner?

I wonder how the owners would feel if an employee emailed them the day they were scheduled to let them know they wanted to quit.

Same thing, and just as unacceptable.

i will miss MCF. got some good deals from them and coral and fish were top notch. Sorry to hear about Blake and Reed. Those guys were always very helpful and friendly. Good luck with you two in the future and let us know if you land back in saltwater somewhere.

OK guys I have been contacted and it appears that there was a miscommunication. Some of the owners wanted Reed and I to work moving forward with the wholesale company but others assumed I didn't want that and didn't bother asking informing me instead that MCF was closing effective immediately and that there would not be work for me. I would receive last week's pay and any product in the store I wanted and they would be happy to give me a reference. Then another owner contacted me saying that was not the original intention and that they were appalled about how this had all gone down. In any case, it appears that there was a miscommunication between their visions for the future and positions for Reed and I. I assumed they were all on the same page which they were not.

Bottom line...I am grateful for the last 2.5 years I have spent at MCF and only wish them the best moving forward. Understand that their intentions were not to end things this way and that the previous statement by coralking is in fact true. One of the major players does have a serious illness. This has just come to my attention. This is why there was such chaos in deciding the future of both companies and its employees. While this is no excuse for the actions that have occurred, it does explain why and I feel that they are justified. Rest assured that apologies have been made and there is no animosity coming from Reed or myself.

I'm sure I speak for all of us when we wish the previously mentioned family member the best of luck with his illness and assurance that we will keep that person in our prayers in the difficult weeks ahead.

Also, the quick decision to close was based on this illness and for that the lease was to expire as of Thursday. They are working on staying open through Saturday if possible as they are doing their best to accommodate all of you guys as they really are grateful for the past support. I will be there Thursday for sure and Friday if the plan goes through to stay open past that.

Definitely proves it wasn't a sudden and unexpected eviction notice that made them close. . .
As stated, the family member's illness was behind this decision. They were able to convince the landlords to give them an extension through this Saturday. I hope you guys can understand.

Blake, I think that you are a stand up guy and I'm glad the MCF powers have straightened this out with you.

Wow, this is truly sad to hear...i wish everyone the best, and may God bless all those involved.
