mlreef 450 gallon mixed reef build

Looking great man.

Thanks Gus, I will take some more pictures later this afternoon when I stop by to check on the progress. I picked up 5 Bosch stone bits for the drill from home depot. The sizes are from 1/8th - 3/8th and a couple in between. I'll see you next weekend.

Here are some more picture updates from JCD Woodwork. They are working on the stand. It is double framed in walnut. The doors will be in cherry, should make for a killer combination.

This is their Facebook page if you are interested in seeing some of their work. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002766850701

If you can dream it they can make it. They do outstanding work and I would highly recommend them.

Awesome job,I am officially jealous. :top:

Thanks Mark, the cabinetry design took me and my buddy Danny and his Dad 2 months to complete. I wanted it to be perfect and 100% functional. We're taking no short cuts what so ever. I am a true believer in taking my time and doing things right. I want this setup to last me at least 10 years until I upgrade to a 1200+ gallon system.

Oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just becoming a piece of living artwork!!

Thanks Gus! Since the aquarium is going in my family room it needs to fit in. At first I just wanted a nice stand and canopy and then my wife and I realized that this is part of our home; it is a living piece of furniture / artwork in a room where we spend at least 4+ hours in each day. We also realize that this is something that we can't just change like changing the paint color of a room, this is much more permanent. I also wanted it to be the focal point of the room. When you stop by next weekend I'll show you where everything is going.

that's beautiful
I don't even want to guess what that's going to set you back

Thank you,

It's just like buying anything else, you get what you pay for. I do have some great connections when it comes to the materials and craftsmen that will help keep everything in check overall.

Mike... It's looking sweet... I would love to come see it when ur done... And let me know about my stand.. Sent u pm

Once everything is up and running you are more than welcome to come check it out in person. I think I might have a BBQ on one of the weekends this summer and have people from CR come over and enjoy. I think it would be a great social event.

:hungry: Sounds like a great idea :)

I'm hungry too!

Hey that's not a bad idea! Nothing like BBQ, Beer and Aquarium talk!

Sounds great! I'm guessing that it will probably take place sometime in July, maybe the second or third weekend. I'll talk it over with my wife and I will announce the date and time at a later date. My wife and I are headed out to the Cubs game later today, any suggestions on where to park? Thanks!

I'm glad that Danny got a hold of you. On your other stands I would use hardwoods, because they are stronger, last longer and are more suitable for moisture and salt corrosion. You are in great hands with Danny!

this is a awsome tank, would love to have just 100 plus myself I have a 72 and 47 bowfront and a 29 oceanic biocube. I would like to combine the two bowfront to one.
I will be watching your progress with this one. You and your wife have done a great job cleaning it up it looks good.

Dude... First let me say thanks again... Second... HOLY $HIT... I just saw ur stand being built. My jaw dropped... The metal framing alone probably weighs 2000lbs... I saw pictures, but in person it is totally diff... That thing is massive!!!

I am going to draw up some things for Danny today...thanks again.

No problem man! Like I said before if you can dream it he can build it. And you are absolutely right; pictures do not do the stand or canopy justice at all. Just wait until it's all together and stand 9' feet tall, it will definitely be the center piece of my family room. You're more than welcome to come over once it's up and running.

I'll let you know, I think that I might have enough people but an extra person is always welcome. I'll give you a call as time gets closer.

Also I will have some more pictures to update the build on Thursday.
