mlreef 450 gallon mixed reef build

Nice avatar brian.... Plumbing this week mike?

Yes, plumbing should be this week. Gus did you want to help?

Need 5 posts to REPLY to PMs?? :P

I got him last December. He's a cow. He's fed 7 times a day. NLS marine pellets 4x a day from an auto feeder, scallop morning and afternoon and Mysis at noon. The tank is in my research lab right behind my desk, so it makes feedings easy :)

Sorry Mike, didn't mean to thread jack!

No worries Brian, that is a beautiful chubby Idol!

What kind of teacher can afford that kid of tank?!?!?

I like to think that I'm an excellent educator. The secret is to do a little at a time and find great deals. Remember that this build has taken me so far almost a year and a half, I can only go as fast as my wallet will let me.

If you have seen what we pay in our district.......

Anyway, that sump is insane... its bigger then all of my tanks... combined.

+1 on the time taking and excellent deal finds man. That's why I'm glad I'm forced to wait a year to set up my 110. It's already saved me HUNDREDS of dollars. Found a free tank, finding small things here and there, cheap ecoxotic strips here and there, it's been a HUGE savings opportunity to just be able to wait.

Granted, my 110 to the monster that you just moved... holy cow lol.

I think that you said it perfectly Ben. I'm willing to say that by being patient and finding the right deals on things and not impulse buying has saved me over well $5,000.00 so far on this build.

i like that this thread has given good info on not rushing a build. Def. something I needed to hear. I'm always pushing through things way too fast!!

At the end of the day you are creating an artificial environment; do everything you can to replicate it so that you give your inhabitants the best chance of survival. After all, you are responsible for your inhabitants survival. By doing it thoroughly and not overlooking anything you can have your cake and eat it too.

I would love for you to stop by and take a look at things and talk reef with me someday.

Both vats are full and fully mixed with salt, who would have thought that 330 gallons would only fill half your system? Anyway I should hopefully have the beast plumbed this week!

It doesn't look like anyone is getting on on the group buy, so at the end of this week I was gonna order it. Do you still want the 4-way? I'm deciding between a 4-way and two squirts...

Ben is there a physical dimension of the 4 way OM? I just want to make sure that I have room for it on the side of my sump. Thanks.
