mlreef 450 gallon mixed reef build

Really great looking plumb job and the OM CL looks real clean too! If one leak was all you had I would consider that a huge success! Even though it was the most important part :-/

I was so excited to finally fill the tank and turn on the filtration system and then the darn pump started leaking. All I can say is that I'm still kind of pissed... Why can't anything just ever work the first time???

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to order those direction flow stickers and put them on all the plumbing...

How long it take to fill that beast? Post Pics when it's up...

Part of me wants to see this huge tank, tons of man hours, insane planning and awesome execution only to pull out an old 25gpd ro/di unit to fill it. The better part of me wants it filled immediately...

I've read about a lot of problems with the reeflo pumps lately. Sorry you got one of the bad ones.

Thanks for the sympathy... You figure that these pumps are $400 plus bucks a piece they should work... Anyway, hopefully these new seals and new gasket will remedy the problem.

On a side note, I have a favor to ask of you. I'll send you something later on Facebook.

I wanted to load some pictures of the leak test. I used my irrigation systems water, which happens to be well water with really high iron count. The water has a yellow/ orange tint to it. I also ran the pumps to make sure that everything is water tight.

Reeflo sent out new seals and a new impeller, but the impeller was not the exact replacement for the hammerhead. Reeflo actually sent me the impeller to the barracuda pump. The impeller will work with the hammerhead but only produces 4500 gph vs 6000 gph, so I email them again and they are now sending me out the hammerhead impeller which will take another 4-5 days to get here.

Here are some pics.

Looks great! Are you going to spray paint the PVC in the tank black with reef safe paint? Although you're probably going to cover it with rock, my thought is that it will never be fully hidden.

I have never given it any thought, but that is a great idea! Who makes a reef safe paint and what kind of results did you have?

Some pics with the canopy. It's officially 8' 6" tall. My wife said that she needs to get use to the height.

Looks like its time for ladder shopping!
:)

Yeah, It looks like I will end up getting 2 4ft step stools with an eight foot plank.

Looks awesome Mike.

Thanks Mark!

I THINK that certain Krylon paints are Reef safe, though I'm not 100% sure. Awesome height!

I'm really liking the height as well, it's like a real piece of furniture.

Krylon fusion is reef save once cured.

What do you mean by once cured? Is that when it is fully dry?

I know, my wife said "wow! that's pretty tall.

Wow the build is really coming along. Glad to see the leak test worked out.

Me too... I was so nervous at first. 600 plus gallons on my wood floors... I was up most of the night when it was first filled up listening for anything leaking or joist noise... Lets just say I could have slept like a baby because there was no deflection what so ever in the joists.

That's a big-ol-tank. Looks great. I have a special delivery for you tomorrow ;)

Thanks Gus! I love special deliveries!
