Spartanman's cube

Ya having it rimless is very nice! I've never been a huge canopy fan and like an open top tank. It is nice having them both match somewhat now I just need to swap out the frag tanks kessil for another OR T247!

Good luck on the wife! My fiance has curtailed tank spending for now. Apparantly a wedding is more important than new frags...

Haha she won't let me get it but for my wedding I took her to the court house then out to eat woo! Then bought myself some wedding coral

Well I screwed up the other day and accidentally left my calcium doser on the ON potion rather than AUTO. Fortunately the gallon jug was only about 1/3 to 1/2 full and not totally full. When I tested calcium yesterday it was over 500 which was the upper limit of the test kit.

I did a 5 gallon water change, and I will do another 5 gallon water change when I get home from work. This couldn't have happened at a worse time considering my ASD shipment came in yesterday, but as of this morning everything is doing ok for the most part. I think I lost one or two duplicate frags in my frag tank but that seems to be it. Softies and LPS seem unaffected, and most of my SPS still had normal PE

Things seem to be settling down. I finally got around to getting new test kits and getting back into a routine testing schedule. I've slowly been ramping down my alk. It was usually at 4.5-5 meq/L or ~12 DKH. It has been steady at 2.5 meq/L or 7 DKH the past two days.

Calcium is still high at 530. I am currently not dosing any until it begins to drop. Then I'll begin dosing accordingly. My coral seem to be doing fine with the elevated calcium.

My tank is registers 0.00 phosphates and 0.02 nitrates, yet the frag tank is still covered in diatoms and hair algae. The display is pretty pristine though. In an attempt to not starve my SPS (some are paling a bit) I have ramped up my feeding heftily and boy do the fish love it!

My latest parameters were as follows:

Salinity: 1.026
Temperature: 78.0
pH: 8.35
Calcium: 530
Alk: 7 dkh
Magnesium: 1190
PO4: 0.0
Nitrate: 0.2

What do you guys run your magnesium at? I am attempting to slowly increase to about 1400 in an attempt to boost some coralline growth.

And lastly some top down shots of the DT and Frag tank.

I'm not sure why some of those came out rotated. I think it's time for a real camera! Phones just really don't like LEDs!

Ya I've been bringing it up, but previously my ca/alk was very stable until I accidentally left my doser in the ON position instead of AUTO and dosed 1/3 of a gallon of calcium solution

Well after months of nearly no sps growth I think things are finally starting to take off. Frags in the frag tank are encrusting, frags in the DT are encrusting and beginning to grow vertically as well. I have been struggling to keep alk up! I've been increasing the dosing pump time daily nut the sps keep sucking it all up!

Went to aquatic experience this weekend. It was pretty cool, but I was a little disappointed in SPS selection, but there were some awesome Zoas. I really wanted to grab the seduction, candy apple purples, and utters from Insane Corals but I had already reached my limit.

Finally got my hands on some Chuckies Brides, a cool PE, and some WoWs . Grabbed a strawberry shortcake and Limeade acro as well.

Thanks Tony it'd be alot nicer if I didn't recently dump and whole gallon of Calc and let my alk get to 5.0, but things are back in line and growth has continued. Now I just need a nice camera to take decent pictures.

On a side note I would like to just say that I recently swapped my kessil for an OR - T247 and have been very impressed. The color is great. It seems much brighter than the kessil. The kessil lights my frag tank which sits right next to the DT and is set at about 75%. I have the OR - T247 set at 30% and it's much brighter.

It was one of the best bang for the buck purchases I've made thus far.

Just looked in the tank and noticed most of my ice fire has RTNED I'm not sure why everything else is looking happy. I'll try and frag a small piece of it, but I will likely be in the market for another piece soon here

Well for reasons still unknown some of my SPS have been STNing. My Strawberry Shortcake is looking bad, I lost my Ice Fire, my Pink Lemonade is starting to STN, and another piece as well. I can't seem to figure out why. Nothing has changed recently and my parameters are as follows

pH: 8.3 (consistently between 8.25-8.40 over 24 hours, goes up at night)
Alk: 9.4 (this has come up about 1.0 in the past week and the leading culprit)
Ca: 430
NO3: <5
PO4: Undetectable
Mg: 1400-1500
Salinity: 1.027

I am doing another water change tonight and will try changing out my carbon tomorrow. I'm just at a loss bc some pieces are showing signs of STN while others are showing really good growth.

Soon here I am going to have to frag my ORA green polyped toadstool since it's growth has exploded lately. I am pretty nervous on doing this since it will likely have to be done in tank. It has grown onto the main rock structure and I would have to completely remove in order to get it out.

My plan was to cut him up, do a water change, then replace carbon. How does that sound?

The tank looks great! Can I ask how your hung the lights from the ceiling? I need to figure out a way to mount my lights to the ceiling.

The DT'S light is hung using the AI Sol hanging kit, and the frag tank is hung using simple Home Depot hardware. I just got a small white decorative hook, some 3/16" (I think) stainless steel wire, and two ferrule kits. I'll try and grab some pictures tomorrow.
