mlreef 450 gallon mixed reef build

Clowns should have enough room to work it out with 650# of rock and 8' of tank.

So 6 filter socks in the sump? Whats with the chamber second to last on the left?

That's a full refugium that is going in that area, those fins are to allow water to travel under the actual refugium, so it can flow at its own rate. It's hard to explain, I'll take a picture in a week or two while it's in service.

Mike...I just stroked out right here in my living room in front of my tank. The paramedics are on their way.

I just talked with the paramedics they told me that you are now in stable condition and that will make a full recovery as long as you stop by when it's all setup and have a nice ice cold beer and enjoy it.

Doctors orders!

Fox Valley, I'll have an ice cold beer waiting for you.

Its 7:30am and that beer sounds good. I have two different pairs of clowns a clarki and a maroon that get along. I got really lucky with my maroon bring a very nice one. all your clowns will be favorite for the kids and the will all b named nemo and marlin

Here are some more pictures of the canopy with the epoxy paint. I chose heavy machinery white for that clean look and so that it could help reflect light both in the canopy and the stand / sump area. The steel stand and canopy were both wet sanded for a super smooth epoxy finish.

I will post some pictures tonight of the sump from Anthony from Nano Sea Creations. He did a great job.

Here are the pictures of the sump that I had custom made. It was a great experience designing the sump and refugium. I think that I might have a future in it, but for right now I'll stick with educating. Some of the pics are hard to see because they were taken in my garage and there is a lot of reflective light from the windows in the garage. If there are any questions please feel free to ask.

I should have some up and running shots in a few weeks time.

Just ordered a TLF 550 reactor, I was planning on running carbon. What size pump would you guys and gals use?

I'd go with a Maxi-Jet 900 and dial it down. I always like to have too much pump than not enoough. Whatever you decide, you'll need something with a 1/2 inch outlet.

That's what I figured,

If I wanted to run 2 of the TLF 550 reactors which pump would you go with? I would split it off and use ball valves to control the amount of flow.

One for carbon and the other for bio pellets.

Thanks everyone.

I say a mag 5 for sure...

I am using a mag 5 for my 2 avast reactors. The only problem I have is it will not restart after I turn it off. I have too pull it out of the water then it restarts. The pump it self is awesome and plenty of power for two reactors.

Why are you having to restart the pump every time? For the most part Mags are plug and play. I have never had the experience. I wonder if that is only for the Mag5.

Wow

I will be another person to add who are following you in completing this setup!

When your done you can help me with a setup like that, lol :hail:

Thanks for being another groupie! I will be more than willing to share my experiences with the build.

A side not, I will be adding more pics and possibly a video of the progress this weekend!

Closed loop question...

Should I go with the Reeflo Hammerhead Hybrid Pump or the Reeflo Dart/Snapper Hybrid?

I have a 2" drain basket and 2 x 1.5" returns... Hope this helps.

Any pros or cons to either one of these pumps? I'm looking for something with enough power and yet quiet.

Thanks
