My "Tanked" Tank

Running two small skimmers is a good idea. I misunderstood the bf, he already has the unions, he was asking about the skimmer pump. The external return pump is fixed. We opened it and found the bushing very rusted and cleaned it out. He is determined to fix the pump on the skimmer. It is a DAS recirculating skimmer that apparently are not available much around the US. Not anymore anyway. Can't find any within the first several pages of google search.

I will have to shut down over next weekend because of the Nato crap downtown. I am one of those nasty, mf'ing cops that everybody seems to make an enemy of until they are getting robbed and between that and a security job, I'll be working 20 hour days over the long weekend. I need this week to clean the house so my friends that will house and pet sit won't discovered what a slob I am.....

Back from working the Nato summit. The whole freaking thing was in my district. They wore us district officers completely ragged. 18 hour days. I'm still suffering from heat exhaustion but trying to fix the plumbing. I would like this set up by the weekend.

Good luck, and thanks for putting up with the protesters! It amazes me how many of them don't even know what NATO does, let alone why they're protesting...

ehh they were weak.. barely 3000.. I was in the crowd all weekend standing next to them.. very unorganized..

sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread.. can't wait for an update on this.

Lol no I'm not part of them. I'm in 189

They killed the 001 officers. We had to answer regular jobs, then answer these calls, the bomb threats and close the streets when they marched. What the heck were the RDO people standing the on the corners for? Eight officers injured, one hospitalized. Seven of the injuries were heat exhaustion. The guy that got stabbed in the leg was back on the line in a couple hours.

This has been a long process but the outcome will be amazing

You bet your booty! Or bet my booty, it's bigger!!

Still down a skimmer but trying to score the one from Josh on a different post. I guess the pumps are the ONLY part of a skimmer that breaks.

Anyway, can't fix tank this weekend. I forgot it's Memorial Day. I"m a bagpiper so I have a funeral to play at. Couldn't sell old tank so livestock will have to go into large tank. I was thinking of putting everything in now to save a little electricity but really want to get skimmer running before I do that. I will commandeer the skimmer from old tank.

Got rid of lots of rock when one of the guys traded me some very, very hard to get beer! He got my best pieces and I hope it's worth it. I never drank this brew and with my luck, I won't like it!!

I now understand the importance of a large resevoir (spelling) of pre-made water so that will be next after getting main line fixed up. I believe the capacitor on the return pump is breaking down. Right now I am leaving the cover off so I can 'kick start' the motor and just jerry-rig a cover so I don't bump the fan blades and cut my finger off. I never knew these external pumps were so freaking loud.

Some of you guys have been dogging me for doing stupid things without asking first. Sometimes I did ask but did not get an answer. However, I am old school and learn from my mistakes (one of my nick names is "do-it-twice-smurf"). Yepper, it costs a lot of $$$ but I know how to do it now. Sure, that's a stupid way of doing it since I'm not rich, but I will never learn if someone gives me the answers ahead of time.

During all this mess, I learned a great deal about plumbing, return pumps, building stands, replacing windows, properly using tape measure. I discovered how pumps work and kind of how skimmers keep tank clean and it goes on and on. Some day I hope to learn more about corals, but that topic is so comprehensive and infinite.

You NEVER graduate from this school!!

Hope the beer was good for yah I.got the rock waiting to go into my 75 just finishing up some odds and ends on it saw this tank in person very impressive tank

Oh no! Have to share beer with friends who couldn't score tickets. Very special occasion. They yelled at me for putting it in fridge though. I guess you are supposed to age it but I couldn't get them off my case until I told them you brought it to me in a cooler!!

yeah running around sucked, but I was marching in the crowd for 12-14 hrs... these guys were a bunch of idiots... at one point we got called to pull out and when all the UC's pulled out.. They were left with 50 people... we made up the whole crowd.

but back to your tank.. can't wait to see it up and running. I know you have to be anxious...

NOW WHAT!!!!!

My all glass, 1/4" thick sump has a crack on the side coming from the drilled hole. Have no idea when or how. I was putting the piping back together and moved the sump out from the wall a little when I noticed it.

I don't supposed I can just put some kitchen/bath silicone on both side of tank and continue on? Not one step of this freaking tank has gone right and I have just about had enough. Corbin's pets really scammed me on the whole deal and I would NEVER had spent $3000 on this crap.

I think one more problem with this tank and I'm calling it quits and cutting the loses before they're astronomical. I will never get my money back out of this. Living room has been trashed since Oct, basement floor is ruined with rust and pvc primer, had to buy a new skimmer, new this, new that, and haven't even spent a dime on livestock. What a piece of crap.

I could have had a nice kitchen or bath update and stupid me puts money I haven't even earned yet into a tank of sand.

Big whoop.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the issues and problems you're having with the tank...try not to let it stress you out too much. Sometimes, you may have to step back from the project, take a lil break, and come back refreshed. :)

All that does is give something else time to break.

What kind of pressure will it be under? You could use glass or acrylic sheets to support it by gluing siliconing sheets over the crack. If it'll be under normal to low pressure, at least.

Low. It's just the sump. There is no way in high heaven that I turned the nut on the bulkhead too tight. I have too much painful arthritis in that hand.

I keep thinking about this orange and white Hawkfish that Josh has and that put that dam stuck up my butt and I cut some of that acrylic sign I was making a cover out of and siliconed it to the crack. I'll give it a day or two. I don't know if I should put the rest of the piping back together though. I'll see what the old man says.
