My "Tanked" Tank

Don't reattach anything until the silicone is dry. But that should be fine. I have a crack in my sump, but it's where there's only water when my return is off, so I just siliconed both sides and it still holds fine. Putting acrylic over it will support it and seal it without a problem.

That's a big what if and a whole lot of water to clean up

Low. It's just the sump. There is no way in high heaven that I turned the nut on the bulkhead too tight. I have too much painful arthritis in that hand.

I keep thinking about this orange and white Hawkfish that Josh has and that put that dam stuck up my butt and I cut some of that acrylic sign I was making a cover out of and siliconed it to the crack. I'll give it a day or two. I don't know if I should put the rest of the piping back together though. I'll see what the old man says.

Feel better after a few Guinesses. Starting looking at Foster & Smith and all the cool aggresive fish I can put in it. I think I give up on rays and go fish only.

Well it was only dripping slowly if not slower. Because of Nato, I have not touched the tank for more than two weeks. I wasn't home for five days (had pet sitter) so it's been dripping for weeks. Maybe longer. Sometimes it does pay to be lazy has I had not taken the towel off the floor since the last time and it happened to be laying under the leak.

If the towel wasn't there, I would have noticed the water on the floor so it's bittersweet I guess.

I really love jschoggins hawkfish and thinking about it and how it will look in tank spurred me on.

Since there really isn't pressure on the crack, I feel confident it will seal okay. I just got through encouraging another member to fix the leak in his 220g. Mine is much easier since it is only the sump but everything going wrong at every stage of the game is just knocking me to pieces. It's getting stupid that I'm working myself ragged to make extra $$ to pay for all this and I don't even have any fish or coral in it yet.

Argh! Cracked sealed so I filled sump back up and was hooking return pump when I kept felling a drop of water hit my head. Finally discovered it dripping from bottom edge but dont know if it is connected to the crack. Geez.

Sucked water back out of sump and applied more silicone. Maybe thursday I can turn everything back on.

Yep, that's all taken care of. Silicone on sump is holding. Skimmer is up, rodi water taking forever to fill bucket. Pellet tumbler working. I used my HQI tank that nobody wanted for a hospital tank so that is cycling.

Went to Olde Town Aquarium on Wells for bulkheads. Man, $9 each but I was training at Near North School just a mile a way so I picked up a couple. They have excellent looking fish at decent prices. Even had a red carpet nem that was easily over a foot in diameter.

Anyway, I spent three hours in very uncomfortable positions taking the nuts on and off. One of them had the rubber seal slipping off center every single time I tightened the nut. Then they were both leaking from the OUTSIDE between the nut and the screw. How the heck can this be? Doesn't the rubber seal go on the nut side? Even when I glued pvc inside the bulkhead, the leaking was worse and running down the OUTSIDE of the pvc. There wasn't any water in the overflow, just what pooled at the bottom.

What the hell is going on? It is very painful for me to climb under and hold a very large wrench in small hands. I've spent 5 hours over two days just trying to get two bulkheads in place. Now I think I'm just going to seal it off all together and go with just two returns pipes. $18 plus Chicago tax on bulkheads that leak. What crap. I don't like the supplies at this aquarium.

I should have just waited and gone to Global. The last two I bought from them are so much better in quality and price.

The gaskets on bulkheads go inside the tank; the water pressure helps to keep them sealed against the glass. :)

Ok, apparently a out of body moment cause I was really stumped. I'm physically and mentally exhausted from a pumped up worked week with intensive police training the last two days and I should not be doing this until I rest up. I feel like I'm trying to put this tank together while drunk.

The lights I purchased from Coral Compulsion are absolutely fantastic. Laptop battery dying....pics later. Thanks guys.

Yes it is, I will be transferring all livestock over to new thank this week whether the pumps are up or not. Tank, glass covers, stand and sump available.

Sorry to hear that you're still having issues putting everything together, I wish I could help, but unfortunately I can't do much right now. What are you training for, the academy? I remember those days. :)

Okay, here is the latest....had an torturous morning with that infernal sucking problem x 2 days. Started a 'God Help Me' thread because I lost it and just couldn't figure out what to do.....whew! I was lucky that so many CRs apparently were not at work this morning!!!

Plumbing finally appears normal; or what is normal for me I guess....

This is what it looks like at the moment;

The par 38s lights I bought from Coral Compulsion are so perfect! I can raise or lower them depending on what I put in the tank. I think I am a little short on the right side and might pick up one more and all I have to do is pull the cord over and the lights will move. That way I don't have a gaping hole in the ceiling showing.

I saw the post that yogo had that showed these light and I duped it.

The cords and shades came from Ikea. The cords are great because they are 8 0r 10 feet long. I have them times to go on and off in pairs so not all the lights go off at once.
