Spartanman22's 80 DB

overflow happens after a waterchange or puttying some thing in or afterfeeding .. i think its a problem with all skimmers ..

i used to have a lot of problem with my sca skimmer .. now i set my reefkeeper to turn it on 2 hours later than my flow after feeding .. it seemed to help .. no more overflows for me ..

That's a good idea. I also need to get around to installing a shutoff float switch in the skimmer collection cup.

So despite all my fish issues, SPS have been doing well. PE is great despite the three Angels that were in the tank, and color is slowing improving after the transfer 6 weeks ago. Many pieces are beginning to encrust onto the rock work.

Last night I was inspecting my frag rack and noticed a setosa frag I have has a green graft on it. It's small but incredibly cool! I'll be breaking out the camera tonight to try and get a good photo of it.

Got my meds from Amazon today (cupramine, Furan 2, and New Life Ich Shield).

Tonight I added 900 mg of the New Life Ich Shield to my 20 gallon QT. Hopefully all goes well. As soon as this whole debacle is over I'll be looking to get myself a Juvi Goldflake and Multibar pair or trio from PIA.

Depending on how this treatment goes this may become a staple for all new additions to the QT as opposed to TTM.

If you can get it in time, I would use Aqua Pro Cure. You can get it at petsolutions.com.
Madjoe recommended it to me and it work on my purple tang who had really bad velvet.

I wouldn't be able to get it in time and all my research leads to cupramine and CP as being very good candidates for velvet.

Unfortunately my swallowtail did not make it through the night. He wasn't looking to good prior to dosing. I think I was just past the point of no return. Clowns and Scopas look good, and Melanurus is still buried in his cup of sand.

2 skimmer overflows were enough so I finally got around to installing a float switch in my waste container.

I like the minimalist rock structure. It puts more emphasis on the coral as oppose to the rocks, especially when they grow out. Of course this works best in a shallow tank like yours, very nice and props for getting all the trimmings under the hood, very clean look. Since you already got all the trimmings why don't you just get a calcium reactor?

Thanks, I spent a lot of time on aquascape design. This tank served as inspiration for my design:

Due to the height of my tank I couldn't do it to the same extent, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

I opted against a calcium reactor for a couple reasons. Number 1 being that I've dosed 2 part in every tank I've ever ran. So, at this point I'm quite comfortable with it. To me, it's just simpler and easier than a calcium reactor. Secondly, I wouldn't be able to fit a reactor inside the stand, and I didn't want to house any equipment outside of the stand.

When I eventually move into a home my plan is to do a large (200-300g) room dividing peninsula, ideally between the kitchen and living room but that'll depend on the home. When that happens I'll have a fish room in the basement and likely switch to a calcium reactor.

I just turned out the lights yesterday to clear up one from continuing...
I was getting some rust going into sump grom a clip i used to hold a dropper.

Yes unfortunately it is. Looks likes it's been on the decline the last couple of days though

Well algae outbreak seems to be dying down, and now that I've got a shutoff on the skimmer it's easier to skimmer more aggressively and not have to fear overflows. Unfortunately the lack of fish has led to a quick drop in nutrients. My SPS are getting a bit paler than usual. I think the switch to LEDs may be contributing as well. I'm going to lower the intensity a bit tonight.

Unfortunately my fallow period has still not started because I can't catch this remaining wrasse he is avoiding all my traps.

I'm a water/wastewater chemist by trade but for some reason I always neglect testing my tank! Ran through all the tests today and ended up with:

Alk: 7.7
Calcium: 340
Magnesium: 1290
NO3: 0
PO4: 0

The bad algae outbreak I had has been dying off, and the tanks starting to look good. Due to the low nutrients and recent switch back to LEDs my SPS have been paling. Without any fish in the tank there's really not influx of nutrients. I'm going to go back to aminos while I finish out the fallow period.

Calcium is low at the moment because I haven't been dosing it since I transferred to the new setup. Shortly after transferring my calcium was running at 500. Now that the coral have settled in and started growing again I'll need to durn the doser back on.

Got too jealous of MMreef's multibars so I went and got some of my own! Trio from PIA

Do they have an actual website up yet? Or you ordered with RdosR?

RdosR. He posted saying the site was up but that there communication issues with the site and PayPal which is why he hasn't been mentioning the site yet. They've got some good looking Juvi goldflakes....
