Spartanman22's 80 DB

looking good! i know you like the clean look, have you thought about replacing that BRS top with a custom made ClearView Frame Mesh Lids? i have one coming soon, it was a bday present from the wife...a little pricey but it looks like it belongs there

No I had not even heard of them, I'll have to check it out

With this new setup I've decided to take the responsibility of running a full QT process. I've never QT'd before due to space constraints. Now that the tank gets its own room there is plenty of room for QT.

All new arrivals will go through a 4 round TTM in which they will receive prazi treatment. After TTM fish will move to the 20 gallon observation tank. After 2-6 weeks observation they will then be moved to the DT.

I have a similar qt. I fill the qt with tank water when i do water changes. Usually half of the qt tank water gets changed.
Nice to have a running QT when needed. I also keep a new biomedia filter in my sump to seed though i havent needed any since the upgrade.

I've just been doing water changes with tap water and prime for now. I haven't had to do a water change on the DT yet since it's only been going about 1.5 weeks.

The QT is very nice but man does it test my patience! It's hard having an empty display!

Ja. Thats why i put it in the room i hate going into the most in the house. So i only go in when theres a fish going through a qt.

Stopped in at AP today to pick up a Potters angel to replace the one I lost, and they had way too many appealing fish. They had a sunburst anthias and small powder blue that were both stunning! But the holy grail was a dark variant Scopas. The first fish I ever had was a dark variant Scopas and I loved him. I had been looking for one for this new tank, and am so glad I stopped in today!

Not the best pictures as I'm shooting them through the TTM bin.

I really wish I could find a skimmate locker that was more short and stocky than tall and skinny. I may end up just going DIY but would like something a little nicer looking.

Contact Avast, they'd likely sell you whatever size you want...they sell kits and parts as well...the lid with the sensor, disconnect, and carbon vent is the critical part: the rest is essentially just a tube.

Good point I hadn't thought of that

Little update:

I've currently got a Scopas, tiny Kole, Picasso clowns, Black Leopard Wrasse, and Potters Angel going through QT. I've got a few more transfers to go, then about two weeks of observation.

I witnessed some interesting behavior between my Scopas and potters last night. The Scopas swam up to my potters, turned his right side towards the potters, and let the potters pick at his side. It was very much like a cleaner wrasse or cleaner shrimp interaction.

....ive witnesed several situations like that. But usually its the tang being a jerk. So. The tang swims up does the side swim basically showing off its surgeon blade for dominace in turn the angel nips at the tang in defence as thats what angels do they bite. And tangs slice with the back blade.

Thats my interpretation of what you witnesed as i see it all the time. My tangs are jerks...well mostly the yellow tang. The desjardin could care less only nips at the rabbit fish. The atlantic blue tang is the fastest and most agile fish i have. It ca zip and zoom between rocks like no other fish ice ever seen. It could be because it was housed with that dragon eel that sold a while back.

The swimming behavior between tangs is visible when multiole tangs are in a system

Got off topic there. Sorry.

Cant wait to see your QT mates go into the DT. Good luck!

I get what you're saying about displays of dominance this just seemed so slow and very non-aggressive, but you are probably right.

I can't wait either! I hate having an empty tank!

I pulled out the DSLR tonight and snapped some photos of what's currently in QT. I'll upload them once I get to work tomorrow.
