Spartanman22's 80 DB

Picture dump coming tonight!

Finally figured out my GHL doser. I had a terrible time getting that thing connected to wifi, and then once I did it wasn't dosing per the schedule I set. About 2 hours later I finally got it going. I also got my ATO and heater finally programmed. So, other than a few little things (like the overflow cover and setting up my media reactor) my tanks on cruise!

Made it through the power outage pretty smoothly today. Power was out for only about 3 hours.

I've had my media reactor setup with AIO Biopellets, but they aren't tumbling well and starting to clump up. So, I'm going to try getting the nozzle adapter from Avast Marine. If that doesn't work I'm just going to say screw it and go back to carbon/GFO. I've got an adequately sized skimmer, marinepure block, ceramic bead media, filter socks, and a sponge. I doubt I need the pellets anyways. If so I'll just go back to vodka dosing; that's what I know and I'm comfortable with it.

Well today I made the decision to switch back to the OR LEDs and to ditch the halide setup. It's just way too much heat. I've got the AC on constantly, and the tanks still averaging a temperature of 82-83. Half the time the halides aren't even on beaus I have them set to turn off at 82.

I've got one OR currently, I'm trading my Kessil for a second OR, and I'll end up buying a 3rd. I had great results with it on my previous tank. Plus the lack of bulb costs, reduced electricity bill, and more consistent temperature will be nice!

I also played surgeon and removed the big rock that my nem anchored into. He had his foot down deep in a crevice and I had to slowly chisel away around his foot. Took a bit of effort but he is now back on his dedicated island. I'm going to leave the flow off for a day or two to let him settle in. Then I'll slowly ramp up the vortechs over the course of a couple days. Hopefully he stays put this time.

Do you plan on changing out some of the diodes like Sawdonkey to get the color temp you like or are you happy with the colors you had?

Looking good! Can't recommend a T5/LED hybrid highly enough if you decide you want to play around with a hybrid. Definitely can't argue with Gunner's results though with the OR fixtures.

I was pretty happy with the look right out of the box. Probably won't change anything. Maybe sometime down the road though.

I would love to get a powermodule, but I can't justify the cost at the moment. My bank account needs a breather after this setup!

I'm strongly considering getting a 4 ft 8 bulb hydroponics T5 fixture from eBay, gutting the middle 4 bulbs and sticking in 2 OR fixtures. It'd basically be the same cost as buying a third OR and then I get some T5 in there to fill in the shadowing.

I am not to keen on the lights right now. I am running 35% blue and 5% white. I don't think I can go any whiter, so that channel is terribly under utilized.

I am thinking of changing 4 bulbs to RB.

2 Green: I think this color is just mildly aesthetic which I appreciate. But, it is not diffuse. I can see a green spot 12" below the water surface. (The light is 10" above a glass pane.)
2 Red: Not too sure about the benefits of this spectrum. I think the white bulbs provide enough rounding in the spectrum. But, I also don't want a light that is just variations of light blue hue.

Thoughts and criticisms would be greatly appreciated. I am chewing my finger nails to the bone.

I'm just not quite sure if I want to do this or just 3 OR's.

From what I understand reds and greens don't do too much for coral growth and overall health. It's really more for our personal color preferences.

Yeah, I have a stock fixture over my sump and it actually looks pretty crisp. The only real reason I did the diode swap is so my blue channel isn't completely blue. I put two whites in the blue channels so I can stagger the on/off times to create a half-ass sunrise/sunset without having to look at a completely blue tank. Other than that, I probably wouldn't bother with all of the other swaps I did.

I actually get much better PE from the acros in my sump, but it could be due to the lack of fish, the light, different flow, or maybe even the tons of air bubbles my return dumps into the chamber.

I'm really torn on whether or not to go with three ORs or have a go at a DIY led/T5 fixture. My concern is going from a light fixture that's currently smaller than the tanks footprint (39"x15") to a fixture that is the same exact dimensions as the tank itself (47"x24"). I'm not sure if that's look goofy or not
