Spartanman's cube

Ya I took off the auto feeders on both the frag and display and will stick to 2 frozen feedings until things settle down.

Tested again yesterday and nitrates are down to 50. Hopefully the trend continues. I've lost a few frags, but nothing too devastating. It does look like I'll lose my Elkhorn montipora colony though which is a bummer.

I still got that unknown acro frag you gave me for free. It's not brown anymore and the polyps are nice green now. You gave me 2 and if you want one you can come pick it up. And when the Red planet grow out, you are definitely welcome to a frag if you like. Hang in there buddy!

Thanks man! The only pieces I'm bummed about loosing are Icefire, Red Dragon, Pearlberry, and although some of it survived my Elkhorn montipora colony.

Everything is rebounding very nicely though. I'm starting to get some solid color and tissue regrowth. So hopefully that trend continues!

I caught a picture of my two helpers the other day!

If anyone has frags available I'd be interested in pieces of the following: Red Dragon, Icefire echinata, Hawkins Echinata, SSC, blue milli, sunset milli, and pearlberry. PM me with prices if you have frags available!!

Ok cool thanks Tom. I got myself a Red Dragon and Echinata from Labas. I'll have to wait to pick up the rest until I can get the toadstool out of the display.

I got all my Nikon photos uploaded to photo bucket this weekend so hopefully I can get them onto this thread this evening.

Tonight the toadstool is getting rehomed to a nice 220 where it can truly be appreciated!

There is now a gaping hole in my reef, but oh well just an excuse for more sticks!

I picked up some real nice pieces from Labas the other night. Thanks again if you see this!

I've also been vinegar dosing 5 ml a day in an attempt to reduce nitrates. There hasn't been a reduction below 50 yet, but everything is doing well. I'm thinking my fuge is a source of a lot of it. It's pretty slow flow throw there, and the chaeto doesn't tumble. As a result, my chaeto hasn't grown much in the several months I've had it. I think I'm going to add a small power head in there to get the chaeto moving

Probably not a bad idea.when I had one I stired mine up a few times a year and pumped the water out to do water change just to remove some of that junk build up

Agreed. I have a bunch of really coarse gravel in the return chamber of my sump. I guess you could call it a refugfugium. Every other month or so, when doing a water change, I completely stir it up and suck out all of the water in that chamber. TONS of detritus collects there, so I think it's important to get rid of it from time to time.

They won't attack anything they just really like to watch. The one on the right likes to drink the water from time to time

Every water change I do includes stiring up the rubble (Seachem Matrix) in the sump and siphoning out the detritus :thumb:
I always siphon up the skimmer and return section but haven't tougher the fuge much lately. I'm going to try and clean it up this week
