Well I leave for vacation on Sunday and my SL2V2 just died on me. I have an Apex Gold ready to go but don't want to setup a whole new controller right before I leave. So, the only other option was to fork up the dough and overnight ship a new SL2.

I have the JBJ auto feeder currently. It works well, but it was a bit tricky to figure out the programming. The instructions weren't the greatest. I purchased an Apex to replace my RKE. So once I get around to setting it up I'll be replacing the JBJ with an AFS

Got back from my honeymoon this week and my tank pulled through pretty well. 4 days prior to leaving my cat tipped over my thawing fish food causing it to spill down the back of my stand and all over my SL2.

I tweaked out and immediately purchased a new SL2 and had it over night shipped from a very popular online vendor. Needless to say that will be the last time I purchase from them. My card was charged on the 7th but the item was not shipped until the 12th. I called and spoke with them and they are claiming that the order was made through PayPal and that they didn't receive the processing until the 11th; however my order history clearly states I payed with credit card and not PayPal.

But it all worked out, I managed to get my wet SL2 running well enough to control my ATO. It sucks to waste $45 on overnight shipping, but in hindsight I'm ok with that being the worst of a 7 day vacation.

I came home to an higher alk of 9.6 (normally 7.3), and as a result lost a red dragon frag. Vacations are always so stressful with reefs and I'm so glad nothing tragic happened!

I received a Nikon D3200 as a wedding gift and having been playing around with it. I still have a lot to learn but managed to snag some somewhat good pictures. I'll get those up soon.

Things have been going well so far. I'm still feeling a little backlash from the vacation but parameters have stabilized so hopefully things start relaxing. I've had some color troubles lately so I think I'm going back to AA dosing to see if that helps.

I've been trying to debate on what skimmer to replace my SCA with. I have a Vertex Omega 150 with Vectra head cleaner, but just saw the ATB Nano One and RLSS R5-I and now I'm reconsidering

I'm having some issues with my tank lately. Some of my SPS have been shown some tissue necrosis. Some of its base up some at the tips.

My parameters have been steady at:

Alk: 7.0
Ca: 450
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 78.0
PH: 8.30

I turned my GFO reactor off today thinking maybe I was stripping the water too much. The only change I've made lately is I've been slowly bringing up my magnesium. It was at 1250 a week ago. I tested last night and I'm at about 1350 today. Other than that nothing has changed.

On a side note my zoanthids look fantastic. The colors are just exploding

I'm still battling some stn and burnt tip issues despite my parameters having been very consistent over the past month+. I think my issue was overuse of GFO. I turned my reactor off and am hoping things start to rebound. So far I've only lost 3 small pieces so hopefully that's all I end up losing.

On a more positive note, I received this today! Can't wait to set it up and see how it works. I have the Vectra for my Omega 150 I'll be using once I go through with upgrading my system. So, it'll be interesting to see how the two compare in terms of performance and quality.

You may consider raising Alk between 7.5-8.3. 7 is on the low side IMO even when carbon dosing.

I'm usually around 7.0-7.3. I have been slowly raising to about 7.7. I am not currently carbon dosing at the moment. I run GFO but don't use carbon. Only dosing items used are calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity supplements (brs).

My confusion is that my system's parameters have been very stable for a while now and I was having great success. Then out of nowhere all my SPS are unhappy, but there hasn't been any changes in parameters.

You are probably right then, with the GFO stripping too much of the water. I've always had way more problems with ULNS approach than nutrient-rich tanks. Same thing happened to me with biopellets. My SPS looked at their all-time best when I had an algae problem - go figure.

I know what you mean usually the colors are great. I threw in new gfo because I came back from vacation and there was a lot of algae in the system, but it seems I over did it. I'm just hoping things stabilize soon. My PC rainbow piece is starting to show distress unfortunately.

Do you think it'd be a good idea to throw some carbon in a filter bag in the sump in case of a potential toxin introduction?

Like anarchy said, maybe check your nitrates / PO4. If you have zero, the cause could be the SPS starving out from no nutrients in the water. Adding carbon in this situation may make the problem worse. However, if you think there could be some contamination, you could add some carbon and just feed a little more.

I've been feeding like crazy lately. My tanks over stocked. I have 9 small fish in a 25 gallon. With 5-6 feedings a day (4 dry, 1-2 frozen). I haven't tested PO4 or NO3 in a while, but I'll test tonight.

Just picked up an Ultimate Stag mini-colony (identical to the battlestag) for $18. AP never disappoints!
