Spartanman's cube

Nitrates are down even more today!

Alk: 7.0
Ca: 440
pH: 8.33
Temp: 78.0
PO4: 0.0
NO3: 5.0

Alk dropped from 8.0 - 7.0 over the past few days. My sps have been encrusting and recovering so hopefully this trend continues.

Glad to see the vodka/mb7 combo is working for you. I'd hold off on the GFO and keep doing what you're doing. Just make sure NO3 doesn't get too low or you'll have the opposite problem like I recently did.
Haha sometimes I wonder why I go through the frustration of SPS, I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment!

Man all you guys with sps. I cant keep birdsnest for a life of me

Thanks me too! And yes once I get between 2-5 I'm going to cut current dosage in half and start maintained dosing. Then adjust from there accordingly. At this pace I should be there within the next couple days.

Sweet save Adam!!! Once I start adding SPS frags I'm coming to you and Mai

Just let me know! Most of my stuff is small at the moment but by the time you're ready for SPS I should be able to cut them all!

I just can't wait until the 80 is up. Then I'll have the space to really start collecting some nice pieces. As soon as the upgrades complete I'll be grabbing myself a nice BC pack.

Yeah but I moved a powerhead and that's when it really started. I moved it back lastnight and there's more polyp extension This morning. Still very little on the Monti though

Oh gotcha ya I've never had both good PE and color. It's like heisenbergs uncertainty principle in my tank..

I'll be going out of town for 2 weeks in December and I've been starting to plan ahead for the trip. Fortunately all my fish eat pellet. So, I'm hoping I can just setup a large ATO and let my auto feeders run. I got myself a WiFi enabled camera to keep and eye on things and will have family nearby in case of emergencies.

The vodka/MB7 dosing has been working real well. I've been hovering around 3 ppm nitrate at 1.4 mL of vodka a day. My sand bed is still experiencing some nasty diatoms but hopefully that clears up soon.

I tore out a nearly dead ORA green Birdsnest colony. It was not worth leaving that big chunk in there with the hopes that a few tips survived. It was such a shame I've had that growing for almost 3.5 years. But best not to dwell in the past, only looking forward at this point. Removing it frees up some much needed real estate! I'm debating removing the Ponape Birdsnest as well to a lower portion of the tank.

I'm hoping to have a pretty nice frag pack waiting on you when you get back. Might have to wait until after the holidays though

Pulled out a softball sized ORA Green Birdsnest and Ponape Birdsnest from the main system the last two days. The green Birdsnest was a lost cause. Ponape is fine, but wanted to have a fresh start on the top rock structure. So, I'm back to the infancy stages with multiple small frags, should be fun to watch them fill out. They'll have just enough growing time to turn into nice little mini-colonies for the 80 gallon in the spring.

I emptied the skimmer after a weeks worth of production and man does this thing pull some serious gunk! I was pretty nervous when first setting this up. This is a monster of a skimmer for a 50 gallon system, but with the vodka dosing it is skimming nice thick gunk consistently.

I'll either text you or pm my list of acros that I have so you can let me know if anything sticks out. I'll also send you the ones for the upgrade
