Spartanman's cube

Awesome. One big reason I've been holding off as well is because I hear they are escape artists and will likely find a small crack to jump out of. Do you find that to be an issue? Does he go up to the top a lot or just hang out by his burrow?

I actually lost mine to jumping so yes it certainly is an issue. It was a very sad day. I have a screen top on mine with a small cutout where the auto feeder is. My only guess is he got out right there. He would go surfing down the overflow a few times. I'd go to empty my skimmer cup or do something in the stand and see him cruising around in the sump.

Definitely make sure you have a top if you consider one. My mistake was taking a gamble with that small opening. Unfortunately I lost...

I do have a top, one of the BRS DIY ones but the problem is they are really light. So light that I've had wrasses jump so hard the screen just lifts off and they still end up on the floor. I was able to save my red head fairy because I actually heard him flapping behind the tank but I wasn't so lucky with my female flame wrasse...now my male flame is going to be lonely for Valentine's Day :(

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look into securing the top a l ittle better and plugging in all the holes. I really want one.

Ya I know what you mean I have the same tops. Are yours resting on top or inset into the frame? I made small acrylic tabs that I connected to the frame using the plastic push connectors used in cars. I built the frame to the interior dimensions of the tank so that it sits inside and flush with the top. This helps a bit with keeping it in place.

Ya the par values were from the Giesemann Infiniti. It's hard to find much on the Elos Planet II I don't think they had much of a presence in the states. But they are of very similar quality so I'm making a bit of an assumption here.

i was eyeing those spectra fixtures for a while .. should have jumped when i found one for a fair deal recently :)

im thinking of going 100% sps and then my leds would make no sense and ill be switching to MH .. the only reason i sport leds is for my chalices . ....

I have regrets over what I'm guessing was the same local deal! Oh well it all worked out in the end. Just get yourself a second tank for SPS and keep the chalices in the other tank!

it's resting on top of some plastic tabs, kind of like the tabs you are using in your 80g new build...they came with my tank to hold up the glass partitions...it's not exactly flush but it doesn't really look out of place either

Gotcha is there anyway you could anchor it down a little bit? Mines never forcefully exited the tank that I know of.

Well I was about 10 seconds away from snagging a nice 2.5-3" regal angel, but I did manage to pickup a nice golden angel that's been eating all sorts of prepared foods

Valentine's Day gift from the wife. I love Goldens but have been reluctant due to their more reclusive nature and difficulty eating, but Reefwise had him for a while and has been eating well so I went for it. He was already eating mysis within an hour of being in the tank.

My angels surely damage my SPS, but they are worth it. The large angel does way more damage than the Pygmy.

I couldn't agree any more angels are my favorite especially the centropyges. I've had a potters in my frag tank for months with no signs of nipping. I've had good success in the past with Potters angels in mixed reefs. The only angel that was too damaging was a multibarred angel.

Every night when I get home, I look at my corals and notice a few are sliming. Sure enough, there's a tip or two missing. The emperor doesn't just nip polyps. He trims tips.

It looks like I may have to let the swallow tail angel go. I got a little over zealous and tried to keep a swallow tail and golden in my 25 until April. The swallow tail is giving the golden a hard time. I'm going to try and move the golden to the frag tank with my tiny potters. The golden is a bit bigger than my potters so maybe he'll do better in there. If not the swallowtail will have to go.

Haha I'd love to have a big tank with some big Angels! I was at Reefwise and they had and awesome 3-4" blue face angel which just so happens to be my favorite angel! It made me really wish I had a bigger tank!

My emperor is about 8 inches and he's really grumpy.

Aggression between the swallowtail and golden was getting bad. The golden wouldn't ever come out of his little cave. So, I removed the swallowtail and put him the the frag tank. I then took my small Potters that was in the frag tank and moved him over to the DT. He is smaller than the Golden but still seems to be the dominant fish at the moment. The aggression is much better and the Golden was out and about a lot last night after the switch! Hopefully the Potters and Golden get along well! If not the swallowtail will have to go and the Potters will go back to the frag tank.
