Spartanman's cube

Thought I'd update with some pictures. I love and hate taking pictures of my tank. It allows me to document growth and progress but at the same time reminds me of how badly I want a quality camera!

My latest project was to redo the sump. All electrical was moved from inside the stand to outside on the back. I then enclosed the back of the stand to prevent the cats from getting back there. Because of the plumbing the stand was about 7" away from the wall and the cats loved to run up and down there. I put a large 2" deep boot tray under my sump to prevent leaks as well

It's so nice getting all the projects done. Now it's time to sit back and watch the sticks grow!

The only change I still want to make is change the skimmer and add a swabbie. Likely will be the swabbie change first then consider a new skimmer

I got the final board cut and installed to keep the cats out from behind the stand. One of our 2 kittens loved to climb down through the opening but no more!

While I was in a productive mood I got a food ring to prevent all the alleged "sinking" pellets from floating right into the overflow.

And lastly, it is so awesome to have real time salinity monitoring! I love the salinity probe. Now I just have to get the NET module hooked up, but the DA software frustrates me so much I am procrastinating big time.

My tank is slightly off level from front to back. I'm guessing only 1-2/16th. I've already shimmed the front of the stand as far as I can. So I was going to try and place a piece of foam under the display tank. The stand is black so I want to use black foam board to match and was thinking of the 3/16" foam poster board. Is this a bad idea? Should I use something else?

What do you mean by "I have already shimmed it as far as I can"? 2/16ths is actually 1/8th of an inch and to me that seems like a lot when we are talking about such a small system. IMO this is more about aesthetics that it is about tank failure on such a small system. I would not worry about the foam board but again this is just my opinion.

Since you are running rimless tanks someone here might have something to say about it but I would guess you are fine unless it bugs you to look at it.

Sorry for the vagueness I used a plastic shim on the front end of the tank. The shim is as far in as allows. So unless I find a taller shim, or start stacking shims I either need to raise the front end by other means or attempt to install foam to level the tank out. I haven't noticed and signs of concerns with the front seems so I'm not overly concerned at the moment, but would like to come up with some solution. I'd hate to blow a seem

I managed to get some decent pictures of my clowns and gig last night. And I also noticed them cleaning a spot on the rock so I'm hoping they will start laying eggs soon!

My acros finally seem to be taking off. Their colors are finally starting to come in and I have been having to increase my alk dosing weekly so they're starting to take off.

I also think it's about time to start cutting this guy up. He's takes up about 1/4th of the tank now.

That things a monster

Congrats on the acros taking off. Mine have also started encrusting like crazy

Ya it's taking over FAST! I'm a little nervous about cutting it up. Due to its size and the fact that's it's grown onto the main rock structure I can't take it out to frag it. So, I'd have to cut it in tank. I'm vervous about it slimming and causing parameter issues. I could always throw my carbon reactor online but my acros are just starting to do well again. I'd hate to take a step backwards

Dam.. Now i want a gig nem.. Tank looks awesome bro.. Good job

The gig is by far the coolest nem I have ever had, and surprisingly hardy. It hasn't even flinched at a couple stupid mistakes on my part. Now if only the clowns hosting it would start laying eggs! If you have the room I'd definitely recommend one!

Wow, looks great and thanks for the comments on the Gig... Now I'm really wanting one, but still a little scared about it eating my fish.

I've only had one incident in the past with this nem. A sandsifting goby that had just been added swam straight into the anemone. The fish was able to swim out of the nem fairly easily and was not eaten. Other than that no other issues.

Picked up a hair algae hopefully in the near future my frag tank will be hair algae free. My tanks registering 0 phosphates and 0 nitrates which just means the hair algae in the frag tank is sucking it all up. I'm hoping that the sea hare will consume all the hair algae and then my gfo and ATS will prevent future algae from returning
