Spartanman's cube

These look like tequila sunrise.

Awesome collection
Thanks I had some more I wanted to photograph but just prior to taking pictures my cleaner shrimp crawled all over some of them.

I refer to these as no namers because I got them from reefwise for dirt cheap since they were totally grey about 1.5 years ago. They have colored up quite will since then though

I've been toying with the idea of clearing up some space in my tank and last night I went for it and removed the frogspawn I had. It was so big I had to lead the main rock over to get it out.

I personally like it alot. I think it gives it a more minimalistic look. I've also picked up a 3rd MP10 for the frag tank, and am looking to add either 3 longspine cardinals or 3 chalk bass and an ORA whitespot pygmy filefish.

This weekend I should be picking up 3 longspine cardinals and then my last addition will hopefully be a whitespot pygmy filefish as soon as AP can get one.

Recently scores these beauties! I've never seen this color morph so I'm going to go ahead and call them Pink People Eaters

Yup! Got them from ASD about 6 months ago. They are starting to take off. Some of my zoas in the frag tank weren't looking as happy as usual so I tested and found calcium above 500 and alk at 6.7 so had to adjust the timers a little bit

Ya they're definitely a looker! The collection is really starting to shape up. I just need to get rid of all the sps frags in there to free up more room. I'm a huge fan of people eater morphs so that's alot of my collection.

Have some big updates coming up! Just picked up a 28 gallon deep blue reef ready rimless (thanks Justin!) and also just pulled the trigger on a custom Synergyreef sump! Looking forward to it getting here! Now I just need to pickup an apex gold, BK Double Cone 150, and decide if I want get radions, a kessil, or keep my current lighting. But that'll all have to wait until after the wedding.

Alright so I've got the sump and ATO container ordered and now all that's left is the Apex, Apex accessories, Skimmer, Self cleaning head, lighting, and plumbing.

I'll be placing the order for all the plumbing stuff this week, but will likely have to wait until after my wedding early august to acquire anything else. Don't want to blow the wedding fund on fish stuff! If I did that I would not be married long.

I was originally planning on going with radions. I am a huge halide guy and love them, but they are just too damn hot for a small tank. The goal was to upgrade lighting to something that would translate to an 80 rimless deep blue. So, it was going to be two Radion XR30W Gen 3 Pros (one for DT and one for frag tank). Two of those should be perfect for a future 48"×24"×16". I wanted the Radions because I want the best of the best this time around, but then I began to think if Radions truly were the best option or if I am leaning towards them because of their name.

I have a kessil A350 and love it. It has worked great for 2 years now, and I think a kessil A360W-E would work great on my new cube and it's currently working great on my frag tank. Two of these should also be perfect for the future tank (a 3rd may be necessary just for shadowing and aesthetics). Now a fully loaded kessil setup would be about half the cost of a fully loaded radion setup. They also look sleeker IMO.

Anyone have any thoughts? I have no personal experience with radions so my stance is somewhat biased towards kessil right now.

Hmmm ...

first of all .. radions as you mentioned arent the best of the fixtures i have seen .. i too wanted to get them and be like pro just for the sake of their name but well after all IMO they are just super hypified leds with lens .. so skipped them and went with something else.

i have Used kessils, used 350 and 360WE and love them for life but they take some getting used to (both for us and corals ) i love their looks and their shimmer and everything that light touches .. colors up beautifully .. i was asked by vendors if i was growing some of my chalices under halides :) BUT the shadowing effect and the 360We even though they advertise as 24x24 i think their real area of use is more like 20x20 so you would indeed need 3 of them over a 48 inch tank :) i still wont like them for an sps dom tank.

then comes the best i have seen soo far, are the giesemann infinity MH &T5 fixtures. if you are spending that much money why not go for these ?

Another thing to consider, if you are thinking after 2 years .. LEDs do tend to loose their PAR over time, and a lot of it in 2 years :) Radions i think would loose more PAR as they are over driven i think.

To be honest I was originally planning an upgrade to the 80 gallon deep blue, but then I took a step back and thought about it and realized I'm going to be moving in the next two years. So, I decided to just upgrade my current established system with equipment I can use now and in the future on my 80. I was originally planning either an ATI 8 bulb or geisemann for the 80 gallon. But as I'm sure you know neither of those are good options for a 20×20 DT and 18×18 frag tank. I have the kessil A350 on my frag tank. Maybe I'll just get a single A360W-E on the DT and then when I do upgrade to the 80 go with ATI or Geisemann.

However I have to get rid of the halide that's currently on my DT. It is probably the best lighting I've ever run in terms of growth and color (reefbrite pendant with 250w radium) but it's just way too hot. My tank is constantly at 80+ and the small apartment is always hot.

Why do you say you don't like the A360W-E for SPS dominant tanks? I have really good success with SPS under my A350

not as frags .. any colonies under A350 ( the ones you grew under A350 i meant ?

if yes, change the fixture to something other than kessil and then you would see how bad the shadowing is .. but well all of them leds have advantages and disadvantages and if you like 350 then may be kessils are for you too ( i bought and sold off kessil 350s and 360s about 4 times in over a year and half )

there is no doubt that kessils color up anything under them beautifully, id say even better than many other leds ( radions included IMO )

that sounds like a good plan ..

well if not out of topic, i changed from Kessil 360WE to occean revive T247 ( priced at $199) and had to say i miss my kessils color but i like the new fixture as for coverage ..

I do have an OR-T247 sitting in its box as my backup light. I agree they are fantastic bargain fixtures. But lmny original goal for this upgrade is the have the best of the best and although the OR fixtures are great, they leave alot to be desired in terms of controllability. At least with the kessil I could control via apex or spectral controller. I will likely put up the OR in the meantime while I wait for the Kessil though because it is starting to get hot!
