Spring frag swap! 05/18/13 @ the odeum

We discussed at length last night in a conference call about this issue. With this larger venue comes a significantly larger rental fee for the day. This minimal entry fee will contribute directly back to the rental for the day. We realize there would be concern, which is why we agreed to include $5 worth of raffle tickets with entry for card carrying members to help offset that cost.

Personally, I understand the higher cost for the larger venue. I just don't understand why the members are the ones being penalized. Charge $2 for raffle tix instead of $1. That should make a good amount of extra revenue.

Getting $5 worth of raffle tickets does nothing for most of us. After the last swap, I am pretty sure most people don't care about the raffles since it seems that the person who buys the most raffle tix is most likely to win everything.

I will allow my membership to expire and just pay the $10 entry fee after this swap. I am guessing I will not be the only one....

Eric, emails will be going out tonight to all vendors that have expressed interest in selling at the show.

Okay, I'll wait for the email, but I hope in the quest of a larger venue you didn't out price small vendors. WCR like other smaller vendors aren't a full time business and can't compete with larger ones that can afford a higher entry fee.

Agreed, I will not be buying raffle tickets this time either because there was like 3 people who won everything. Then 1 month later it was all for sale. It takes the fun out of it.

The $5 worth of raffle tickets doesn't offset the cost.

1. Most people don't do them
2. They're done ineffectively. We're in the internet age, why are we still calling out numbers?

The only reason I got a membership in the first place was to get into the swaps for free. With my schedule I don't have time to attend the other small events that are planned. I as well will no longer continue my membership. $5 is not a big deal but that is besides the point that it was advertised that the swaps are free for members....puts a sour taste in my mouth

You all make fine points with you opinions on how things should be done. Those of you that are current CMAS members, this is the kind of feedback the club needs from you at our monthly meetings. If you have ideas for a better way to do things, you need to make the effort to participate at the meetings or volunteer on one of the club committees. However, at this point, it is what it is. The events planning committee have spent a lot of time and effort to put on this bigger and better frag swap for its members. To get out of the VFW hall, a few compromises need to be made by everyone to make it happen.

Yeah a few compromises that Previous members shouldn't have to be responsible for. I guarantee they will loose more members from this event then they would have gained if it was a normal event. And at gaining $5 and loosing 20-30$ memberships seem like it'll hurt them more then help them.

I'm all for helping out cmas which is why i bought a membership but to be told we have to pay now after their whole selling point was getting into swaps for free is a kick in the nauts.

I'm just saying it may be more appropriate to charge new members or memberships coming up for renewal the $5 entry fee rather than those who have already paid for a membership that is still valid with the understanding the swaps were free for members. When it comes time for renewal then by all means if you want to charge a fee go ahead but I believe a lot of current members will no longer buy the membership

Our next CMAS Board Meeting for this month will be posted soon. I suggest that if you have any concerns, suggestions, etc. to voice them there.

Personally I think it is fine. I'd gladly pay the $5 for the extra space. I typically am a seller at these events and I have to pay more but I am not complaining. Bigger venue it costs alot more and the revenue needs to get made up for. Thanks to George, Chris and the rest of the CMAS crew for their efforts in putting this together. If they did not step up to help out there would be no event.

I tried that before and I ended up having to pick my busted up face off the floor after that fiasco. I won't be renewing my membership or attending anymore CMAS meetings. I'll likely be traveling the weekend of this event anyways.

I can't see myself paying for another membership AND being charged extra for these events after the delays in publishing last years financials. Sorry CMAS.

From their site,

"Alternately, you can attend a meeting or fragswap and fill out an application at the meeting. You can attend some meetings without becoming a member. This is a great way for prospective members to gather information about CMAS. Note that some special meetings are restricted to members only or require fees for non-members. This will be noted on the web site. You can still attend these special meetings provided you join the same day of the meeting or pay the entry fee (which will be waived if you join that day.)"

note the "or require fees for non-members". I think it's great to change locations, but this is just not the way to do it.

It doesn't seem to state there will never be charges for members, but implies it.

Since it seems to be a common issue for complaint, lets clarify. Membership dues have never guaranteed free entry into any club event. The lower rental costs for the VFW hall made it possible to extend the perk of free admission to members without losing money. This complaint of entitlement to free entry makes no sense. Membership dues do not simply exist to fund free entry into the frag swaps. Membership wants a larger venue, the club accommodates the membership with a larger venue. It's a small nominal fee per member to have the swap at this larger venue, and members are being compensated for the value of that entry fee. It's the best arrangement that could be made so everyone wins at the end of the day. I hope to see each and every one of you with complaints at the next club meeting so you can voice your concerns.

"You can still attend these special meetings provided you join the same day of the meeting or pay the entry fee (which will be waived if you join that day."

If we consider this meet to qualify for whatever special meeting means, then this statement gives two options. Join that day or pay the entry fee. Not Join that day and pay the entry fee or pay the bigger entree fee.
