I don't want to be a troll about this. I know cmas works hard on these swaps. I'm sorry about my earlier remarks. Skunkmere out.

I said this on RC:
If CMAS wants more members, it will need to be more transparent, and not just to members. If they want more membership, then outsiders need to feel welcome, as opposed to shut out of the process. if their financials aren't posted publicly (which, by the way, is required by law...) then I'll never join.

What I didn't say but will add here, there was never a promise for lifetime free frag swaps (if my memory serves), so that seems a silly issue to me. This stuff costs money. But, the lack of transparency makes me question anything about the cash in general.

Just to make it perfectly clear. I am not a board member of CMAS. I am working my a$$ off to help organize this frag swap for the community, and doing so with nothing in it for me at the end of the day besides knowing I helped the club. The events planning committee crunched their numbers and came up with all the figures. I was very vocal and adamant about making admission free to members, I knew there would be a handful of PO'd people who would turn the anthill into a mountain of drama. They made their decision, it was necessary to charge a small entry fee if we want to pay off this larger venue that the members complained they wanted. Some people are so quick to cry "greed" without the facts, to be quite honest, some of us that are directly involved with this planning and see all the numbers, think it is going to be very close to breaking even at the end of day even with a good turnout and a generous raffle. Believe what you want, but profit is the last thing on anyone's mind that is involved in planning this event.

I don't think anyone said you were a board member. The post Joe was referring to at least was in response to someone saying a member of CMAS, not a board member.

And I agree, everyone wanted a bigger, larger space, but then no one wants to pay for it. I will make the argument that there should be a benefit for members as opposed to breaking even. That is just proper etiquette for a club. And a yearly re-occurring income is better than partial injections that you can never count on.

I truly feel though, that if the board hadn't been so anti-openness for such a long time this would have gone over smoothly. You can't say this is one sided when it isn't. No one is saying they don't want the swap, but there's no incentive to be a member if you already feel your input means nothing, and there's no value added. If its just community, then there's CR, RC, and a dozen others. And those don't cost any money to have your opinions ignored.

I'll be there rain or shine or extra fees. Happy to have it in a larger place even though it's a drive for me. I'm hoping to see more hobbiest tables this time around, if they're close to sold out, we need more tables! That's my favorite part, the deals and oddities people bring from their personal tanks. Otherwise I'm just looking at a bunch of ultra LE stuff that it beyond my price range.

My comments here are being taken out of context and used on other forums, and implied that a board member is making these manipulated statements to make the club look bad.

I agree, if we make money then we have surplus for future events and to buy prizes for contests or giveaways at meetings and on the forum, my point is that "profit" or "greed" is not the motivating factor to hosting these events to the community. I can't speak for everyone but I don't think any member should be left out, but at the same time, members need to help themselves as well by attending the meetings, conference calls, etc... Be part of the club if you want to be a member of the club, don't just complain later after the decisions are made.

Whether aware of it or not, there has been a huge restructuring of CMAS. It's no longer just a few elected officials doing all the work. There are regular members like myself, and Chris Reed who have stepped up and volunteered to help the club. A web forum was introduced with areas dedicated to club discussions for members to see what's happening. And as already stated, every member is always welcome to attend the monthly meetings whether to help out, voice concerns, ask questions, or even just sit in the back and take a nap if they want. If membership doesn't break this old way of thinking their opinions don't matter, nothing is ever going to improve. It's a new year, a new BoD, a fresh start for the club to get back to being about its members, but for that to happen the members need to be about the club and help make it successful.

I am happy to pay small fee to have bigger and better swap. How many of you complainers wanting a free entry will actually skip this event? I bet most of you will show up anyway. You want your voice heard, attend CMAS meeting and voice your concerns there. Or better yet, skip the swap if you don't feel price is not justified. When I got my CMAS membership, nowhere was said CMAS events will be free for life of membership. With that said, I will not be renewing my membership again, as I just don't see the value anymore and really have no time to attend meetings, but no complaining from me, it is what it is.
:peace:

If there is enough demand for hobbyist tables, ill do my best to get the event planning committee to make room for them. I too have found some of the most interesting and unique items off fellow hobbyists at the swap.

Ooh, George, if I'm to buy "Table Space", does there need to be a table? When I sell, and I will at this event, I'm going to have my frag tanks on stands, but that doesn't really work on a table...

And guys, $5 isn't that much. Would I prefer free entry for members? Sure! Is $5 an obscene amount? No. Plus, this is a non-for-profit, so all of the money eventually finds its way back to us, the hobbyists. :D

Considering the CEO of Goodwill and Red Cross both pulled in over $3m in salaries, before benefits, a not-for-profit isn't a guaranteed solid charity, lol. Not saying CMAS is like that, but don't just blindly assume that NFP means everything comes back. It just gets written off.
